  • Learn the process of offset lithographic printing, demonstrated by iconic Berkeley artist David Lance Goines. Offset lithography was the primary printing technique used by artists responsible for the San Francisco rock posters of the late 1960s. Learn more about the art of that era at the de Young Museum's special exhibition, The Summer of Love Experience: Art, Fashion, and Rock & Roll, on view now through August 20, 2017.

My grandfather and his partners owned a lithograph shop in Norwalk, CT. I LOVED going there! He did jobs for Readers Digest and several other high-end customers. My Dad sold printing equipment and chemicals, and my older brother was a "dot etcher". His job was to finetune the colors. I loved the smells in the shop... everything smelled like ink, acetone, and isopropyl alcohol.

I never knew this was how it was all done and always thought screen prints were the more intricate ones but this is incredibly interesting. I just went and saw the new exhibit at the Haight Street Art Center in SF all about Tea Lautrec and the printer of all the old psychedelic lithos. If you're watching this video and end up on this comment then just stop reading and GO GO GO!

Used to run one of these in the 80's. Slightly revised (different colour!). Then called a Heidelberg Kord. Happy days!

I learned about these in a graphics class at New Hanover High School years ago, they actually had an old one similar if not just like this.

Which is better for the customer to buy offset lithograph or a giclee?

Giclee is higher resolution and best for fine art prints, but expensive if you have several. Litho if you wanted 50 or so.
