The program was hosted and telecasted by Gaan Bangla TV as a homage to the Nazrul sangeet legend Feroza Begum just after her demise. In the program, Hamin Ahmed, a famous musician and the second of the three sons of late Feroza Begum and the legendary music composer of the Indian subcontinent, late Kamal Dasgupta, had paid tribute to his loving mother.
Among others, late Feroza Begum’s brother Mohammad Asafuddowlah, an eminent lyricist, music composer, singer, orator, and a former secretary of the Government of Bangladesh; the then minister of cultural affairs of the Government of Bangladesh, eminent actor, and cultural personality Asaduzzaman Noor; Shusmita Anis, an eminent singer and niece & disciple of late Feroza Begum; eminent lawyer and former attorney general of Bangladesh Barrister Rafique Ul Huq; eminent journalist Kamal Lohani; late Feroza Begum’s another brother M. Mosiuddowla, her youngest son and famous musician Shafin Ahmed; her niece, singer, and eminent corporate personality Rubaba Dowla; eminent music composer Azad Rahman; eminent Nazrul sangeet singers Sadya Afreen Mallick and Sujit Mustafa; and musician and managing director of Gaan Bangla TV Kaushik Hossain Taposh have discussed about the life and works of the great music legend Feroza Begum.
Legendary Nazrul sangeet singer Feroza Begum was born in a Muslim family in Faridpur, British Raj (now Bangladesh) on 28 July 1930 to the Zamindars of Ratail Ghonaparha. She became drawn to music in her childhood and started her music career in 1940s.
Feroza Begum first sang in All India Radio, while studying in sixth grade. She met poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the age of 10. In 1942, she recorded her first Islamic song by the gramophone record company HMV in 78 rpm disk format. She lived in Kolkata from 1954 until she moved to Dhaka in 1967. In 1956, Feroza Begum was married to the legendary music composer and director of the Indian subcontinent, Kamal Dasgupta.
Feroza Begum died on 9 September 2014 in Dhaka at the age of 84. She left behind three sons.
