- Here's a beautiful clip of Part One of the Aragon Club Scene from the 1967 Singer Show. The tune is "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You from the Album "Going Places". Enjoy.
P.S. I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Herb and Lani play at Blues Alley in Georgetown Washington DC 12 May 2008. The show was absolutely spectacular. After all these years, they both still have it: the skills and the love. Truly a remarkable show. Herb and Lani, thanks to all of the wonderful years of warming our hearts with your great art work. You both are truly blessed as well as I was at your show.
I'm getting sentimental over the 60's when I listen to this music...i was only 10 in 1967 but this music brings back so many lovely memories. My Dad was a professional photographer and he would take me on some of his day trips. We always took Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass Band music with us... Boy do I miss him.

Fantastic song from a fantastic album. Herb had an unbelievable talent for an arrangement. To me he was a genius, and I'm still listening to him. There has never been a preformer and musician who can hold a candle to him.
I played the slow Trombone version of this in Stage Band in the 1970s.
What I love here is not just the update to a modern jazz style, but the way Alpert takes it full Dixieland by the very end.
A masterpiece. I am enjoying rediscovering Herb Alpert. Look at his wiki page, he's a wonderful human being.
And if you need cheering up, put on his Tijuana Taxi, a song so ridiculously cheerful and bouncy that I sometimes laugh with happiness listening to it.
I love this arrangement,plus a gat trombone solo by Bob Edmenson. There's nothing around today that compares to Herb Alpert and the TJB. Priceless AND timeless-I still listen to them today!!!

Saw the TJB play Detroit at Cobo Hall in 1965, those guys were virtuoso musicians! What a memorable show as a teenager to witness Herb and company at the height of their popularity.
I forgot how much i liked the TJB's "Going Places" album. Thx for posting.
Because my dad loved me enough to buy me a boxed set of LP's called "The Swing Years" in 1966, at the height of my obsession with the Animals, Paul Revere and the Raiders, etc., I was exposed to a lot of classic bigband stuff at a young age. As a result, having heard the original performances, I got my first arranging lessons when I was shown by TJB that you could "do things" to tunes: "Flamingo" is an example, and so is this tune.
I saw this footage as broadcast, and have never forgotten it.
I jus love the echoey effects added to the tune played at the beginning of the clip. Really gives a very nostalgic feel to the whole thing before it makes way for the jazzy and very lively version by Herb & co.
The slower & nostalgic version & the crooners who sang it makes me want to sitback, relax & think of my love whilst Herb's version makes me want to get up and dance! Essentially the same tune but 2 completely different effects!
Thanks so much for posting this, my parents had the Going Places LP and it was my favourite as a child, I still have it. And seeing this video adds a whole new level of enjoyment, wish I was born earlier than 63!
Herb knew his audience. The Greatest Generation was approaching middle age, Boomers were teenagers. Take a huge big band hit top it with brass and electric instruments on the ridim' section plus a great arrangment. Big hit. good stuff.

Wow, this really strikes close to home. There was a very popular balllroom here in hou, tx called The Aragon. Ist I worship Herb Alpert and the 40's swing era, double fun!

I loved Herb & the TJB as a kid in the 60's & 70's. It was a let down for me when I learned these video's were lip synced! Still cool to see these video's!

The opening solo is Dorsey, The second solo was *probably* not Edmondson but someone from the Wrecking Crew or another session player. This was pre-recorded. If you watch Alpert, he, takes breaths when he shouldn't so he wasn't playing.

Im wondering if this was actually performed at the Aragon ballroom itself or was this done at the NBC studios with a recreation of the Aragon interior?
So what happened to the Aragon Ballroom? Did they tear it down like so many other historical landmarks or is it still around and in use? Yes.. of course it had it's glory days before and during WW2 with the classic big bands, but what has happened since the TJB put this video together?

The Aragon was destroyed by fire on May 27, 1970, a blaze which was deliberately set.
