- Video of the FULL curtain call & Tina Landau's gorgeous speech at closing night of Spongebob on Broadway! Filmed live (with permission) from the center of the front row of the mezzanine. You can see several cast members catch my eye & wink or wave. It was one of the most moving theatrical experiences of my life! I'm so glad I was able to capture it for those who couldn't be there in person, including for my friends in the cast, crew & staff so they can revisit the moment & the magic. I love this show and I can't wait to see it on tour.

That was the plan if it was profitable but sadly it was just losing too much money :/ so when the time came to renovate the theatre they decided just to close and do the tour

This show was able to do what some of the newer seasons of Spongebob weren’t able to do for me... It had a unique feel to it, the comedy didn’t feel very rushed or forced, and hell it even kinda made me cry... I’m glad their still doing the tour, but I still hope that this show will end up getting revived in five years or so...

i was at this show. i was in the mezzanine and it was for real shaking. everyone was crying and clapping and cheering and smiling. its strange such a large audience can come together to really appreciate a show and everyone in it

I flew all the way from Colorado for closing night having never seen the show before. Needless to say it was worth every penny. The Palace was rocking that night, literally. (What the video doesn't show is that the Mezzanine was literally shaking.) I wish I went to the matinee so I could of seen it twice. As mentioned, Ethan did certainly did break down at the start of Best Day Ever. Also the applause(s) for I'm Not a Loser probably lasted the better part of 2 minutes. Overall a fantastic show, I will certainly see it on tour next year.

I love how they give each person their own moment in the spotlight, no one is just specifically labeled as “ensemble”, they’re all special. Once it got to Ethan I started tearing up just because i could tell how much of a dream this was for him

I was there... saw this with my own eyes from the very-very back of the house. So glad I’ve been able to see SpongeBob as many times as I have. Every night was a blast and I couldn’t ask for anything better.

Since I have been part of a musical myself, I appreciate the work of the people in this business even more. And the saddest moment is definitely when you've done your last show.
I got to watch the show at the end of may or early June (not a dear Evan Hanson pun) and it was outstanding! Ethan worked so hard! He would leave the stage deprived of all energy. I wish it would’ve lasted at least another year. It makes me quite sad to see it go so soon.

Isaac Wong - Yeah, but it wouldn’t have made any sense to release the tv recording before showing it on Broadway. That would’ve been a bad business decision. Which is why they did a tv recording two years after it debuted on Broadway.

One thing i loved is that they included the guy making all the sounds. He did some choreography with the cast and was even clapping with the cast in "the best day ever"
MIKE DOBSON!! He is the absolute BEST!!!! (They featured him even more prominently in the Nickelodeon filmed version of the musical.) Bonus: he is one of the nicest people in the world!!

Ethan crying makes me cry. As an actress myself, I know how attached one can get to a role and, when it's over, it's very hard to say goodbye. You almost feel like you're loosing a piece of yourself. And, since the shows I've been in have been very small and some only ever given one run in the history of ever, like this one, I cannot even imagine the emotion going through Ethan's head (or any of their heads for that matter). Then, when everyone cheered for him?! That must have been wild. I would have so loved to see this during it's run. I wish it had lasted longer. And, yes I know there is a tour of this traveling the USA right now, and I'm positive the new cast does brilliantly, but I am 100% positive there will never, ever been a better human-version of Spongebob than Ethan Slater. This casting was phenomenal and deserves every piece of recognition it got. Sad to see this one leave the stage but Spongebob will never ever leave our hearts. And, I'm certain he won't leave the cast's hearts. This night must have been so hard for them. I'm so glad they were able to get back together for the TV performance (If you haven't seen it, you must>>> czcams.com/video/E7y9aubIHLQ/video.html) because, now, the show, and this cast in particular, will live forever and we will always have them at our fingertips. This has replaced Grease as my favorite musical (which I never even considered another show could do), in my top 5 list of favorite musicals. Such a brilliant show and such an extraordinary cast! Will forever love this show. ETHAN, ETHAN, ETHAN, ETHAN, ETHAN, ETHAN,ETHAN!!!!

i haven't loved a musical in so long and even though i never saw this musical live only in videos i'm obsessed and i'm so had it had to come to an end. i hope one day they tour in my city so i can see a show.
I was in a play at my school called henry the sixth and this remind me about everything about it and i loved every single part about it

I admit that I was part of the crowd who thought that this musical was not going to do well, I was a little optimistic, giving it the benefit of the doubt, but overall I thought it would maybe do three or four shows with a good turn out where the kids will want to see it but after all that hype dies down it will no longer do any good. I was wrong, I will say that now, especially with this cast, they have jobs as the perfect stand in's for the original cast! Tweak their voices a little bit in editing but you would not be able to tell them apart! I think they were the best cast you could have ever gotten, they were the characters and that alone helped make the musical as huge a success that itnwas.
The run on Broadway was cut short because the theater was being torn down to make way for retail shopping space. Seems to me that could have found another theater. It certainly had a talented cast and the costumes were great. I think it's flaw was that they had all those songs, and instead of the songs supporting the plot, the plot was made to fit the songs. They should have had a better story / plot. Also, any play has to have it's ups and downs.. this one was going up up up - non-stop without any chance for the story to develop. Ethan Slater, Gavin Lee and Wesley Taylor were exceptional.
I don't know why I get emotional with curtain calls lol
