    The only explanation for Ruby’s mom pointing at the sign is that she knew there was a CCTV camera and that the police and/or social services would see the video during their investigation of an abandoned baby. It also explains her hooded cloak, to hide her face so they couldn’t find her. It was indeed very goofy, though. And I’m unclear as to why the Doctor’s memory of that moment kept changing.

    Not everything made complete sense, why did maestro say she was "wrong" and why the memory changed, but i think i understand the bulk of it.
    The tardis has been to the church on ruby road. Ruby put so much importance on that night, that when she was introduced to the tardis which already went to that night by That point, a link to her and that time was created inadvertently. When she thinks about that night the link grows, sending time to her. The snow from that night falls, the music can be heard. If time is a memory, then memory is time travel, and while memory shouldn't be able to time travel on its own, with the help of an actual time machine who says memory can't trigger it?

    Part of me really likes the reveal that Ruby's mom is just some ordinary person, and the scene where they reconnect is the best scene of the episode. It fits in well with majors themes of the season, and I like that it's not played for drama (e.g., "How could you abandon me?"), and instead both Ruby and her mom are just emotionally aware and mature about it. So all of that is great, BUT...
    We were forcefed clues throughout the season that Ruby and her mom are somehow special/powerful/important, and the "just an ordinary woman" conclusion feels like a big FU from the writers. "Ha ha, I can't believe you trusted us when we showed that Ruby can manifest snow in various times/places, and when the Maestro saw something inside of Ruby that was placed there by the Oldest One at the time of her birth, etc. SURPRISE! Those were just lies to make you speculate!"
    Also, in the TARDIS at the very end, Ruby's use of the phrase "my REAL mom" kind of rubbed me the wrong way, considering the relationship they've shown that she has with Carla thus far.

    • @eh708
      @eh708 Před 11 dny

      Yep, absolutely. It’s not a case of inflated expectations. Multiple things don’t make sense if Ruby and her parents are just ordinary.

    • @TheCagedCorvid
      @TheCagedCorvid Před 11 dny

      Well, I think they managed to loosely make sense of most of it, but I'm a little bothered by the insinuation that we are assigning meaning to things all by ourselves when THEY are the ones egging us all on, on and off screen, in interviews, advertising, social media... it almost feels like someone goading you into an argument, then telling you you're too sensitive. Maybe that comes from my own personal experiences of that, but it felt kinda crappy...

    It's not 100% perfect but what it did well really hit with me so to me that is what sticks. I love so much that Ruby's mother is not some godly being, a time lord, a paradox, or anything else theorised. After the christmas special I almost hoped we wouldn't figure out, leaving it a mystery, teaching the Doctor that it's ok to not know. But this works just as well. "Everyone is important" has been a Doctor who message for a long time, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the Doctor's personality at the time.

      @@AmyWarriorPrincess Not what Davies said.... Davies confirmed to SFX Magazine: "[Gibson is] not leaving. Not at all. We were ordered for two years of a series off Disney, and we're delivering two years, and the Ruby Sunday story literally spans those two years.
      "We are planning [to] shoot the [season 2] finale in which Ruby has the most magnificent scenes, and Millie, it's some of [her] most challenging material yet, isn't it? It will all make sense once you see it play out."
      The writer admitted that it is "very unfortunate that these things make the papers," reflecting: "We're in a very difficult position, because you can't answer rumour, you can't speak to rumour, we can't try and pin it down because the internet will just run away and will either misinterpret or will decide that the Princess of Wales has been replaced by four cats in a wig.
      "So, it's that you cannot begin to answer this sort of stuff. But you will see the love that we have for Millie and the extraordinary stories that Ruby's about to go on over the next two years. I guarantee you that.

    I’m happy to hand wave a lot - but the part that’s hardest for me about Sutekh being an invisible parasite since Tom Baker is that we don’t have breadcrumbs to point to for the past 50 years but suddenly so many in the past 7 episodes.
    Like events like “the doctor’s wife” where the scavengers lure 11 to eat the tardis and even pull the “soul” out so they can devour the box - you would think someone would notice the Egyptian god beast perched in the rafters in some capacity?
    Like I’m not trying to nitpick - I liked this mostly but it just felt like they made it all bigger and more all encompassing then was needed or plausible.
    I personally get taken out of any story that decides it needs to kill the entire cosmos in act 1 when it makes it obvious that none of the stakes matter. Death doesn’t mean anything when it’s just hosed across the entire story.

    • @johnniequinn3215
      @johnniequinn3215 Před 12 dny +6

      My Headcanon is that Sutekh was hanging on for all this time, but was only able to manipulate events after “Wild Blue Yonder” when the Doctor broke the barriers of reality at the edge of space to allow beings like the Toymaker a foothold into this reality. From there he was literally able to reach back along his timeline to retcon events.

    Sutekh secretly clinging to the TARDIS for so long is confusing 'cause TARDIS has been through some sh*t since the 4th Doctor. Was Sutekh chilling on the House asteroid outside the Universe in 6x04? Was he still wrapped around the giant TARDIS on Trenzalore in 7x13? Did he shrink in 8x09?
    The whole episode was weird. Not terrible, but weak. Sutekh was defeated quite easily. The pointing thing was ridiculous, as is the claim that Ruby's mom was simultaneously "more powerful than gods and Time Lords" but also a random person whom they found _really easily._

This time Im swinging for the doggone neighboring city's baseball diamond cuz my Mrs Flood swing is: Shes some kind of amalgamation of the negative memories of companions past. Her name is potentially Carol Flood Ala River Song, she calls the doctor Clever Boy ala Clara and is in one of her outfits this episode, Shes once seen in a kinda walker similar to Wilf with his wheelchair, and at the end of this episode shes dressed a Ramona. Failing that absolute full body swing she definitely seems designed to make ya think of multiple companions.

    First off, this is Dr. Who the show that is sooo old that it has a million plot holes. LOL! However, if you watched the entire season one mystery is solved, but not revealing who Mrs. Flood is, keeps the Who in Who. So was the season a sucess? Answer Yes- Ruby is the outer embodiment of the Doctor coming to grips that he is adopted. Check-Timeless Child,. Two- Since The Flux we have been going around with a quarter of the universe. By using Sutekh, and the logic of this story that even the worlds that were destroyed in the Flux should now be restored because the fix point in time that the Doc visted those worlds they were living planets. Side note Gallifrey is would still be dead because at the 13th-Doc's time stream the Mastered killed everybody. Sorry! Three- Our 15th Doc is so incredibly human, more so than 13th(a mom), 14th(tramua victim), that Rawness makes you love 15. That RAWNESS is beggging the Coming of the Valeyard!!! So yes, on one hand the season has a bowtie on it, but yet it is a cliffhanger because soo many things are unanswered.

    I have a feeling they will reveal that it was not her mom but older ruby who find a way to save herself by dropping baby her off at the church. the camera is almost pretty much 73 yards away and Ruby mentions 73 yards and the doctor wonder how she knew it! And she is pointing to the camera because she know it is there to say basically 'it's me Ruby' and she can't be seen because it's Ruby herself. it makes way more sense. I think the reveal of her mom is real but the memory changed 3x once is the original memory with her mom, second is when the doctor drops her off and then one where she fixes the destroyed timeline from 2046. So i kinda think she will be like clara where she is ordinary but then FTR-Hell Bent explain it the echoes. I think Ruby will make herself special.

    I always thought of the "bring death to death = life" part as, if you kill the aspect of death, then the sand that killed people never occurred in the first place, so people never died, thus they lived. Kinda like miracle day from torchwood, when people stopped dying, "death had been killed" and people kept living, thus life. In this case sutekh killed his own aspect of death meaning the sand so no one actually died, in the time vortex so it happened simultaneously everywhere.
    One thing that keeps confusing me tho, even if ruby is human and we know who her parents are now, putting all that aside, how tf did she keep making snow fall? Even if her mother was made "more important" by themselves, how did that even relate to the memory snow falling? Also, why was maestro's reaction to her so extreme, like they could feel something inside her, feels like something was retconned along the way.

    We know Ruby's story is not done. Though I do think RTD dropped the ball in communicating that leaving people frustrated. MY takeaways...
    Ruby herself has a perception filter as hinted in dialogue.
    Why did the Doctor not want Ruby to talk to her mother (out of character).
    Is she really Ruby's mother or is a plot a foot.
    Is Ruby's father related ot Mad Jack (Ap Gwilliam (of William) Her father's name is William.
    With the reveal that 73 yards is the range of a perception filter when it becomes more apparent that old Ruby (Jack's Herald) wasn't telling people terrible things, she was showing them terrible things, they all look directly at Ruby before they freak out. Does standing at the very edge of the perception filter cause it's effect to sort of glitch and you see what's really real?
    Finding Ruby's mother was far too easy, and none of Maestro or Sutekh's dialogue work if she is just some random teen mom. For a few scenes I was almost convinced UNIT set up a fake mom just to make Ruby stop looking for now

    I was really enjoying this episode up until the end. The Doctor controlling the TARDIS with a whistle was a lot of fun. I like the solution of this episode and the idea of death of death creating life. I just didn’t not like the end. Though the sentiment that something is important because we ascribe it importance is nice, it feels like such a cop out. Her being just a regular person doesn’t make sense to me. Because then why didn’t Sutekh the name of anyone else who was in the same position as Ruby? I much rather would’ve prefered Ruby’s mom or even dad being some type of other member of the pantheon, making Ruby a demigod. And I’m really interested in seeing where the Mrs. Flood stuff goes. I’m glad they kept that open. And I am sorry to see the season end so fast. With the Doctor being in only the majority of 6/8 of the episodes, I feel like I barely know him. And while I love that we have a Doctor who is emotional, his crying every single episode really makes the whole crying thing less impactful.

    What could have been an excellent episode was a bit 'meh' to be honest. It didn't live up to the hype of the way in. The episode's resolution just didn't have the justification for how we got there.
    RTD has shown us several times now that he can write himself into a good cliff-hanger and he's really not very good at writing the resolution. 'See what happens when death meets death ... we get life' ... erm, what?
    They are always too fast, a one-trick gimmick or loophole, bam they're done. No nuances, no convoluted logic, very little 'timey-wimey'.
    He needs someone else to write the Doctor & co a way out of the situation that he's got them into.
