    This is so inspiring! I don't have a Sizzix (not sure of the spelling, even!). Am I right in thinking that using a rolling pin would allow more freedom with the size and shape? Would I still need some sort of hard plate on the top and bottom? These papers are absolutely beautiful!

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před 6 měsíci +14

      Thank you so much for your kind comment. I was just thinking that perhaps this would work nicely with a hot iron. It would provide more heat to starch and make the papers stiffer. Rolling pin could work, too, if you are strong. My upper body strength is not the best so avoid it. In any case, I would still sandwich the papers between fabric pieces. If you try this, let us know if you don’t mind. I would love to know how it goes😊❤️

      @sislertx Před 17 dny

      I think a rolling pin might work but a press of some sort would be much better...just 2 boards and four long bolts and then wing bolts to fit... to hand tighten them.....like.a home made flower press....oh i almost forgot....i also got eight of the largest washers that fit my bolts ...helped hold the boards down tight..there are lots of.videos on how to make one....and then absorbant fabric between the papers and boards.....u could also leave them all to dry in it if your boards can take the moisture...aka..not particle or plain plywood...I believe I painted mine...when we downsides and moved I got rid of it...have often regretted it as every year all mu books have my pressed flowers in them!!!
      Guess I will make me another.as I want large papers too.

    Starch+water+napkins+press wth Sizzix=new interesting paper. How amazing! As long as this channel exists I am sure I will have no shortage of gasps (learning opportunities). Thanks so so much for all the experiments you publish! Unique channel indeed, thoroughly saturated with awesome ideas. The result totally justifies the investment into a pair of brand-new (for pressing only, not for cutting) plates for Sizzix. My favorite textururizer in this video is plastic mesh (we buy lemons in similar packaging, so I will definitely have some soon). I also like the square from the plastic tablecloth so I’ll have to look for something similar in our dollar stores.

      Thank you so much for watching and for leaving me a nice comment, as always. I appreciate it immensely. I love the mesh look. I’ve been collecting meshes from different packages. They are great for Gelli printing, too 😊❤️

      Wonderful! I tried drawing on thicker ones with thin black markers and there was no bleeding through. I’d experiment with thicker starch solution to have even less absorbent paper for calligraphy.

    TIP: I raised the back end of my Big Shot up just enough so when the coffee was getting squished out it just ran off the Big Shot into a towel I had folded up at the front of it. This saved me a lot of clean up in between each new paper being rolled. I then realized if I used a baking pan in the front I could even do away with the towel making clean up even easier.

    I do love making paper, but mine tends to be a little on the thick side, so really like this method having thinner paper.
    While organizing and going through boxes in my craft room, I ended up with a box full of napkins, both white and brown from restaurants, so hope to play a bit tomorrow.
    My Sizzix is still sitting on my kitchen counter from when I was working on Christmas ornaments for the family... which should be finished by this weekend.... 😂 I was really sick prior to Christmas, so I have an excuse, lol.
    I also have 3 photo albums of dried flowers, mostly from my mom's funeral, ready to put in the craft room, but will trying some of those out as well.
    I am curious how to use spray or liquid starch, I have both. I'm guessing, maybe water down the liquid starch a bit with coffee water? If using spray starch, the napkin stays damp enough while folding, until you get it through the Sizzix?? 🤔
    Well, this looks like such a fun project for sure, appreciate all the inspiration you bring and share D.... and the fact that you test everything out so we don't have too, lol. 💜💜💜

      I’m really glad you liked the idea. I tried with liquid laundry starch and it worked just as good. I used it as is. I am thinking that perhaps a few drops of brown ink could make it less white. Thank you so much for watching ❤️😊

    If you mix your cornstarch with a little cold water first - it will combine into your spray coffee smoothly without settling on the bottom of the bottle.

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Thank you so much for the tip. I was thinking earlier that perhaps I needed to properly cook coffee with starch to avoid settling. Your idea seems better 😊❤️

      I was coming here to say the same thing. It is like when you make a roux. Hot liquid, cold roux or cold liquid into hot roux. Either way I put cornstarch with cold water and combine. I suppose that is the Cajun side of me adding cold thickener into hot roux when making gumbo. Otherwise, the cornstarch gets gloopy.

      Glad you liked it! This is similar to what you’re describing, but with addition of starch which acts as a binder. Toilet paper, paper towels or even soft tissues would work with this just as well 😊❤️

    I recently watched a video of yours on pressing flowers. How do you keep your flowers from fading. All that I have pressed have really boost their color. I love this video. I guess I need to invest in a sizzix.

    • @Saacibo
      @Saacibo  Před 6 měsíci

      I think no matter what you do, some flowers will always fade and loose the bright colours. White roses always turn brown but I like them anyway. Some become more translucent, other go dark or brown. I dried red poppies once, and they changed to purple. 😊

    So many fabulous ideas! I can't wait to try all of these ideas. My only problem is that my embossing and die cutting machine is electric, so I can't really do anything with liquids! 😊 I guess it's time to invest in a hand crank machine. Thanks again for this video! ❤

      It’s true, you can’t use it with electric one. Perhaps, it’s possible to do this with a hot iron. I’d keep the napkin layers in between the fabric pieces and just iron over without steam. They might even dry faster. I’m going to try it tomorrow 😊

      Maybe add a bit more starch or make it with hotter liquid. It happened to me a few times, too. I think I didn’t spray enough or I didn’t mix before spraying. If you cook the starch a bit before spraying so that it dissolves completely it becomes more sticky but it’s a bit harder to clean the Sizzix afterwards. Thanks for the kind comment. “Art scientist” - I love that 😊❤️

    Just watched your paper making from napkins. Listened to you first while slow sewing and this afternoon watched again from start to finish. Meanwhile I googled and made my own starch . I don’t possess an embossing machine. (Am I calling your machine correctly)? I wonder if a rolling pin would work? Anyway I am determined to have a go. I have some pressed leaves and flowers from trying eco printing on old sheets. I will let you know how I go. Thank you once again for these sooooo very informative videos. Regards .
