The song is about a man who travels through time into the future and sees the end of the world. When he goes back in time, he goes through the great magnetic field mentioned in the song, turning him into Iron Man. When he tries to tell the world what will happen, nobody cares becuase he can't talk. Being so enraged by this, he goes on a killing spree, creating the end of the world that he foresaw. A great song! I AM IRON MAN!

Welcome to MY music! BTW doing that on sax in a Band class, I can't even imagine.
    Funny story.
In 1972 I asked my best friend's sister, who was the dream girl of my life, un-beknownced to her, to go to the Black Sabbath concert that was coming to our town. I absolutely LOVED Ozzy Osborn and Black Sabbath and just KNEW that, even though I had acne and was very nerdy, my buddy's sister couldn't resist an invite to see Black Sabbath, even if it meant going with a geek like me, so I'd get my foot in the door and then take it from there. And she did. Well, as often happened with bands in that era, they cancelled the concert because somebody in the band had a overdose of one sort or another and, since I thought the love of my life was just going with me because, "free Black Sabbath ticket", right? I just called her and said I was sorry the concert was cancelled. Didn't offer a different sort of date, 'cause I was 17 YO and STUPID. Ended up driving around that night with a different friend of mine that had a car, went to a White Castle where all the "Heads" hung out at that time and met my girlfriend, wife and mother of my two daughters (not in that order). That lasted 5 years and ended in divorce and then I ran into my old best friend one day, found out his sister was now divorced. Got her number, wasn't a nerd any longer, ask her out, and married her and been with her for 41 years. The funny and sad part of this tale is that she didn't even know who Black Sabbath was when I asked her to go to the concert and she was just glad that I finally asked her out. She was very sad when I didn't attempt to take her somewhere else. There is a lesson in there somewhere but I get kinda teary-eyed when I try to reason it out. I love it when I find people that like Ozzy and his gang!

After hearing this song and all the transitions it makes, all of the unconventional sounds from the guitars, the drums, the vocals, I hope that younger folks can understand why us older folks find most of today's music boring. Most of it has the same sound, the same beat, the same pace. The instruments are strictly conventional, the vocals are rarely unique, and the lyrics are about as poetical as Humpty Dumpty and covers the same literary themes.
I'm not saying that all modern music is bad, but most music today is not written, not created, doesn't take risks. It's assembled from safe cords and rhythms specifically to turn a profit. Black Sabbath is the polar opposite.

Going back on a flashback to the early 80's, the band "Quiet Riot" was very big. They were the ones who ended up coining the phrase "head banger" which was what the fans of Heavy Metal / Hard Rock would be referred to by. They did it with the song "Metal Health", and it's worth a listen.

So cool to hear her say that she knows the riff because of her brother. I grew up in Ireland and American High School bands would come over to Limerick in the 70s to play and March in The St Patrick’s Day Parade. My mates and me were at the 1973 or 74 parade and one of the US bands were playing Iron Man, it was way cool. It was great to see all the grown ups enjoying it not realizing it was Black Sabbath.

Good reaction folks. This album ( "Paranoid") was released in 1970 and nothing even remotely like it had come before. It is the original from which all things metal were born. It was also at the height of the Vietnam War and this song somewhat reflected the horrible way the men returning home from that war were treated by their own people. The first track from the album, "War Pigs" was also about the fallacy of that and all other wars. I believe you'll like and react well to it.

I had the pleasure to see Black Sabbath along with Ted Nugent at Madison Square Garden way back in 1975. Anyway, check out some of these songs from them as well, “Sabbath, Bloody, Sabbath”, “After Forever”, “Sweet Leaf”, “War Pigs”, “Paranoid” and “Killing Yourself to Live”. #blacksabbath #ozzy

You can't go wrong with Black Sabbath, try "into the void."

The drums actually do it for me the most in this song.
Wiki meaning (because song lyrics and meanings are super important to me -- and maybe to you): The lyrics tell the story of a man who time travels into the future and sees the apocalypse. In the process of returning to the present he is turned into steel by a magnetic field, and his attempts to warn the public are ignored and mocked. Feeling shunned and alone, Iron Man plans his revenge on mankind, causing the apocalypse seen in his vision.
I don't know if you've reacted to this before (just getting familiar with your channel) but Warpigs is a MUST!

I first heard this song back in ‘83, watching the Greatest Tag Team Of All Time enter the squared circle, The Road Warriors!

Hey Jay and Amber, you guys had reacted to the lead vocalist as a Solo artist, specifically Ozzy Osbourne

I gotta echo a couple other suggestions below. "War Pigs" will be fun for you guys because the lyrics are easy to hear, and theme easy to follow, and it's a killer song. "Paranoid" is the classic garage band song, has a cool tone and rhythm throughout, and shows off Geezer Butler's skills on the Bass.

I was fortunate enough to catch them on their paranoid tour in Tampa Florida. 1970 was a hell of a year for music

When I was a very little kid, I LOVED Sabbath - I didn't know why, but I did. It was heavy and scary and pushed all the right buttons for a budding, life-long rock music fan. In fact, this band was the reason I became a metal guitarist. Rock. Roll. Repeat.
