  • When you sit in the seats of Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre and take it all in-the soaring arias, the sweeping score that bursts from the orchestra, the opulent sets and lighting, the elaborate costumes, hair and makeup-you likely aren't thinking about all that went into creating the opera that is unfolding before your eyes and ears. You're most likely taking in the beauty and the artistry, this complete work of art, which draws from nearly every creative discipline one can imagine.
For passionate fans of opera, the experience is sublime when it's done well. One of those productions that perhaps represents the range of the art form as well as any is the Mozart classic "Le Nozze di Figaro" ("Marriage of Figaro). It's become a sort of tradition at Eastman to revisit this opera every few years.
This production was the tenth iteration in the school's history. With its lavish period costumes and design, and of course the musical tapestry that unfolds during its four acts, it's both challenging and exhilarating for the student cast and the production crew.
This look behind the scenes will take audiences beyond the theater experience, offering a look at what goes on inside the rehearsal room, and how all these elements come together, from the sets to the staging, from character development to costumes. Hear the insights of the director and designers, as well as the student performers themselves on what it means to perform and bring together all the elements that make up this iconic production.
