  • BMW charges into the future with a plug-in hybrid version of its popular X5 SUV. The xDrive40e features gas and electric motors as well as a large battery pack for pure-electric driving. How does it all come together? The AutoNation New Car Test Drive gives you a closer look.
A large SUV with a look as polished as its interior mechanisms, the 2016 BMW xDrive40e Plug-in Hybrid disappoints in no quarter. The 2016 BMW xDrive40e features all-wheel drive and dual-motors for making it a highly functional and utilitarian plug-in hybrid. A 4-cylinder turbocharged motor is mated to an 111-horsepower electric motor stored within an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The second row has a spacious design and boasts passenger-friendly comforts like air con, a map light, and a panorama sun roof. The battery for the 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e is conveniently stored in the trunk, causing the SUV to never feel cramped. Sitting in the driver's seat allows you to enjoy a textured faux wood trim as well as a digital and analog center cluster.
With three different driving modes and BMW iDrive keeping your driving fun and efficient, the 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e is everything you could want from a plug-in hybrid and more. Visit your nearby AutoNation-affiliated BMW dealership [www.autonation.com/find-a-sto...] to see one in person.

I'm pretty sure the X5 competes with the GLE, not the GLC. The GLC is more comparable to the X3.

I owned this car for a year, it didn't do many things well - it was a terribly underpowered hybrid, and a mediocre BMW at best. The only car I've ever owned that left me stranded. The new X5 hybrid seems to hit the mark though.

Hello! I am looking into buying a used one. Could you please tell me if it had many technical issues? Has it been in the service a lot? Thank you!

I'm late to this comment, and while you aren't entirely wrong he definitely gave a great overview of the cars features and design.
