This was when they visited my school! I was sitting right next to the person filming this video. Still remember this performance, and it STILL gives me chills. I love it!
i can't get over this song, the dance, the singing, the poi, the guitar, the harmony. I'm completely transfixed and I never want the melody to end. i hope this is what Heaven sounds like b/c I could listen to this forever. That girl's voice is EVERYTHING! Me ke aloha... mai Hawai'i mai!
I just got back from NZ. and the schools we visited did the poi dance for us and we would dance traditional native american dances for them. it was beautiful to watch, they put so much hard work into this and they put love into each performance. dont go to a show that does this for money, it feels as if theres no emotion and love. if you can go to a school, now there you can really feel the spirit in this dance.
+Caitlin Brendon I lived a year in NZ and participated in the cultural competition they had called the haka wero. It was a lot of fun and a great experience. I went to Kaitaia College, you can see 4 of the 5 performances for the haka wero on their facebook: www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.facebook.com/kaitaiacollege/&ved=0ahUKEwjt_4DZxqLWAhUCxoMKHa19BKsQFggmMAA&usg=AFQjCNFusHQHiGEHQIksDTUmhl-5QqBlDQ They are under videos and I was in Trigg.
Great. Maori and NZ keep their culture alive so well. Well done to the whole system there that takes pride in continuing to teach us about such beautiful music, language and dance 💖
Nga Puna O Waiorea you all are amazing. This number was beautiful yet sassy and flirty. Lol. And yet elegant and graceful. I didn't understand the language however know I'm dying to learn. I LOVE IT!!! Alofa tele atu my Cousins of Polynesia.
I'm Austrian white. I love Maori music an culture. I'm so jealous, you have such a rich culture and I don't have any ancestors or leaders to look up to. Keep up the good work, such beautiful heritage and people.
Are you kidding me? Ummm white people have one of the richest cultures on the planet! White people are extremely diverse. I’m Polynesian born and raised in Australia. I hear this shit all the time. #ITS OK TO BE WHITE!
_egas calybird as a Maori person living in London, I’d like you to consider the fact that Captain Cook , an Englishman, killed thousands of my ancestors when he “discovered New Zealand”, swapping nails for sex with young Maori women, disrespecting and killing chiefs ,men ,women and children, bringing diseases that devastated our people and our land. They fought our traditional weapons with guns and cannons. Educate yourself please! Furthermore, the moriori people were also Maori, they were not there before us.Most likely Maori and moriori interbred and therefore are a part of one another. The New Zealand pakeha government used “Maori people eating the morioris” as an excuse to justify what they were doing to the Maori people at the time. I’m not saying it’s not a possibility that they did eat them either, but you must also know that the eating of people was a ceremony of respect where the mana (spirit, energy)of the slain person was absorbed through consumption. This does not justify the NZ government stealing our land
Jessie LEEFE you’re no less Maori than anyone else just because of the colour of your skin! I belong to ngati Ranana(search us up!) a Maori performance group in London and everyone looks different! I have blue eyes! And I agree ,Irish culture is just as rich as ours x
Nga Puna o Waiorea.:Tutor here inthis video is Tuhoe Tamaiparea. He choreographs and teaches the poi . He is also the current tutor together with Pere Wihongi. They both perform for Te iti kahurangi and are amazing and very talented young people. They both teach vocals .Kaitaataki wahine in this video is Kiri Kershaw(She is now Kaitaataki wahine for Te Roopu Manutaki) Today her younger brother Te Moana Kershaw is Kaitaataki tane for Nga Puna o Waiorea. Both wonderful performers.
thank you everyone for all the positive feed back :) i would love to put the lyrics up or teach this poi to people that would be awesome but this is not my poi to share :) Arohanui x
I love love love the Maori people. Beautiful dances, chants, the songs how they harmonize. Awesome job everyone. I hope someday I can come to New Zealand and learn more of the poi. I only learned a few. Haha. Love it. You guys awesome. ❤️

They are right. The presentation was excellent. The facial expression showed that they learnt about their culture. I appreciated that.. Well done for this college students.
we came top 10 for all items except the moteatea because it was to much of a modern take for the judges therefore us placing 14th, we don't mind, at the end of the day we left our statement on that stage, and we had fun.
Wow! Great stuff - and very entertaining! You could see the girls enjoyed dancing it too, with that under current of coyness. Very beautifully done with the music, dancing and harmonies! Perfect. :)
