I am not from US, and my knowledge of baseball is mainly from movies and mangas. When the MLB highlights suddenly appeared on my timeline one day, Ohtani caught my eye. Good at his game, humble and professional. In one year, I went from only knowing Yankees because I watched How I Met Your Mother, to waking up at 3am to watch the World Series.

I would like to say to the Angels fans who are criticizing Ohtani. I have watched every Angels game for the past few years and the one who wanted to win the most with the team was definitely Ohtani. Even when many players were injured before the postseason, he kept going to games to cover for them. That's how he got injured too. What he did for the Angels is immeasurable. Still, those who blame Ohtani are those who don't like him.
As angels fan i have two emotions. 1 of complete understanding as we dont deserve him anymore. But of course im sad to see him leave.

Lifelong Blue Jays fan. Never really thought the Jays truly had a shot but it was nice to dream for a moment. $700 million is a huge overpayment in my opinion. They'll get probably three great years out of him, three good years, and four throw aways. They had better sell a minimum of a million jerseys and minimum two rings for this to be worth it. But he is on track for Hall of Fame.
Didn't hear what he said? Ohtani is not just a baseball player, he is his own global brand. The domestic and international appeal are going to bring insane amounts of marketing deals that his contract will pretty much pay for itself
It's like he said, they'll make the 700M back quickly. It's not an overpayment when someone brings that much value to a team and overall business.
LA has 70,000 Japanese expats. Toronto has 15,000.
The market for Japanese business as well as ease of access for Japanese tourists would make Los Angeles the only city that makes sense to sign Ohtani to such an amount.
Toronto may have a large Asian community, Japanese American community, but that does not matter much.

So here's the thing I've always said about Ohtani leaving Anaheim. Angels fans might be mad, but they can STILL buy tickets and make the drive up the 5 to see him in person if they're living in OC. Angels fans that live closer to Dodger stadium or in LA county have a much shorter commute if they choose to go watch him at Dodger Stadium!

As a jays fan, I hate that I even thought that we even had a chance of getting Ohtani. I honestly think the jays were never in the race and the agency team used them to get more money from the dodgers.
What is frustrating is that the Angels could not see the writing on the wall at the last two trade deadlines and lost him for pretty much nothing!
What is frustrating is that they compounded that by "going for it" at this trade dealine and dealt away prospects for a bunch of guys who had zero impact and were moved within a month while also watching Ohtani go out for the season within a month of the deadline!

But the way that most of you Angels fans Love this kid named Shohei Ohtani, wanting what is best for him. I realized he is bigger than our dislike for one another. I always wanted Mike Trout to do well and Ohtani for that matter. Why because Beaseball needed that. It needed for the Angels to make the postseason. Also though we share the same market. The Angels are not the Giants or Padres so there's really no hate. Its like if the Angels would have signed Corey Seager. I would have probably watched more Angels Beaseball and gone more to the Big A. So I welcome Angels fans to go watch Shohei up the 5frwy.
