Double Shot (especially the one at Playland’s Castaway Cove) is my favorite ride of all time. I remember one time when I visited Castaway Cove it was out of service but I got to watch the maintenance man standing on the gondola and rise to the top of the tower. I commend his bravery lol.
I saw that too. Kaitlin Olson and Glenn Howerton got to ride it like that while filming _It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia_ in OC. They were in the actual seats instead of on top of the vehicle. Of course, they did do the full cycle too.
I’ve been on the double shot model in Santa Cruz Ca plenty of times, that one specifically is actually 125 feet tall. It’s easily my favorite ride at the boardwalk. After you launch to the top the tower shoots you back down, I love how it’s not just a free fall. And you always get amazing airtime on your decent and I love how you get 2 every ride. It’s hard for me to decide if I like the S&S towers or the Intamin free fall towers more, they both have different but really fun ride experiences.
The first Space Shot was at Reino Aventura in Mexico City. When Six Flags bought the lease in 2000 and renovated the park, Space Shot was removed and replaced by 3 Combo Towers called Kilauea.
There is a drop tower called "Scream" at Heide Park in Germany. It features seats that, once you are at the top, tilt forward so you face the ground, with is decorated with nasty looking (but of course fake) spears and spikes before dropping you. Been on it. Did NOT expect the seats to tilt!
Scream at Heide Park (as well as "The High Fall" at Movie Park Germany) is an Intamin Gyro Drop Tower, they can tilt up to 15°. However, there are other tilting freefall towers (even in Germany). "Donnerbalken" (a German expression for an outhouse) at Tripsdrill (a park themed to 19th century Swabia) built by Bear/Bartholet can tilt up to 30° (but it's like 15m tall so the tilting kinda is the main gimmick)
Given that I am not a tower expert by any means, but I always thought the prototype and original Space Shot that opened was located in Wisconsin Dells, then it was moved to I-Drive in Orlando. The original Turbo Drop used to operate at Buffalo Bills. I have ridden two Turbo Drops that were actually very forceful. The one at Jazzland (which I believe is now on the east coast) and opening year for Supreme Scream at Knott's. Great ride! The Huss version I rode at Oakwood was terrible, besides a nice little drop moment during the last twenty-feet or so of the ride cycle.
@@CoasterCollege @SeanFlaharty Actually you're both right. I had the priveledge of operating Scream at FT for quite a few years and then another few years training team members on the rides policies, procedures, and history. Scream at Fiesta Texas was in fact a prototype model - what made it a prototype was that the rides control system was the first in the world to offer "combo mode" which allowed guests to experience turbo drop mode and space shot mode during the same ride cycle. The controls also allow each individual tower to independently be switched from Combo mode to Turbo Drop mode and/or to Space Shot mode. Prior to this specific towers installation in 1999 all other towers would only be designed to operate on Turbo Drop mode, or on Space Shot mode (a rare few parks did have the ability to toggle between the two but did not have the ability to combine the two experiences).

@@taylorherr3708 Unfortunately, this was kinda before camera phones were widely used (2002-2005), But it's pretty simple. two giant winches are up top of the tower that raise and lower the catch car. The catch car would lower down to the gondola and the latch "dog" would engage via a pneumatic cylinder. The catch car would raise to the top. When a magnet goes through certain metals, it causes an eddy current to develop inherently rejecting the magnetism creating the slowdown
Funny thing about Lake Compounce's DownTime: It originally had the seat belts installed in 2019 and they were removed in 2022 and they changed to go with the bumpy ratcheting option.

Depending on where exactly you live, you might do like my sister and fly over to Germany to visit one of ours, and it might actually be cheaper than taking a train down to England. Phantasialand near Cologne comes highly recommended.
@@Atlessa I love the mystery castle, it’s the only attraction world wide where I got a little bit of fear, that’s why it’s my favorite attraction in general. U should check it out, but it’s a special version of the ones from intamin bungee tower, so don’t wonder if u don’t see a tower like in the ones in the video. But it don’t like it that they changed the lighting, so the light doesn’t flash anymore and u don’t know how high u are, when u aren’t on the top or see the emergency lights above the exits. And I don’t like that it’s so loud at the bottom when u shoot up. Actually, I think s&s towers aren’t allowed in Germany, cause the safety standards aren’t high enough.
I rode both of the ones at Ferrari Land, and they were really fun, I can't remember which one I liked more, but I know I really preferred one to the other, I remember them not being too aggressive, as they are larger models, but I liked the shot at the bottom, which delivered a good kick of positive force.
Thank you for the clearance on these towers! I come to find them pretty scary, especially when they're out in the open. I wonder if you know about the mystery castle (as far as I read an Intamin tower) in Phantasialand in Germany! I absolutely love it and I think that's solely due to the fact that it's not out in the open :D Also you're not suspended on the outside of the tower but on the inside of a real tower housing so the riders kind of face each others. The whole ride happens in the dark but is accompanied by some light in the ceiling of the tower and occasional lights. It's really scary seeing the ceiling come closer as it does. Also it seemingly shoots you down instead of just dropping you with up to 1,5G. :)
The remove the flashing light on top of the station and know u can’t see so much like before, when u are not at the top :(( it’s less scary know. But from the theme is with the towers of terror the best themed ones! So the should check out.
i operate a double shot type ride called the “brain drain” at my local park. the amount of guests i have to ask to leave because the restraint was too small is too many, its honestly heartbreaking. but honestly other than that, super fun ride to operate

I've ridden ice blast, supreme scream, volcano, big shot, and dr dooms. I really like these. Some are absolutely insane. And some... are unfortunate less interesting
Fun fact; in 1999 Six Flags Fiesta Texas became home to the first two combo towers every built by S&S, they were the first two towers to use both the turbo drop and space shot mode in the same ride cycle AND are easily able to switch between drop mode, shot mode, and combo mode, if ever necessary. The ride opened on March 13th of 1999 but the rides dual function made it such a popular attraction that the wait time in line would average between three to five hours and due to this extreme popularity the towers were temporarily shut down just barely a month and a half after opening as the company immediately invested in adding a third tower to the attraction. The third tower was completed in one of the fastest installations I've ever heard of - all three towers were operational and open to the public on May 28th of 1999. You're welcome. :)
Oh so when it was two towers they both operated as Combo Towers? I have a photo of when the ride was new and the third tower was there, only to support the structure a la Rocket or Dominator.
@@Undercoverelevator212-s2nSo far as I know, yes. The third tower was initially just a support component - but as aforementioned having three to five hour lines just for the ride is a pretty good cause for a temporary closure to install the necessary components into/onto said support tower and transform it into a working ride. Well worth it in my opinion - I mean when the rides fully staffed with efficient operators it can be pretty easy to hit the rides theoretical hourly capacity of 900 riders per hour (300 per tower). As for the ride operating in combo mode in it's opening year? I personally did not get to visit the park in that year, but in my past experience working at the park - I was always taught to train team members with primary focal points on safety, efficiency, hospitality, ride statistics as well as components, and finally on ride history. Over the years I've found that management at the park has always aimed to give the best overall experience to guests which in this case means giving the best of both worlds by keeping them all set on combo mode. It's actually extremely rare to see them operate in Drop mode only or even in Launch mode only. In 13 years I've only seen one of the three towers operating in Launch mode for an accumulative entirety of about one month, and have never seen any of them operating only on drop mode.
@@lancedawalga4268 For that VR event they did in 2017, they ran in Turbo Drop mode. Their ascent nowadays is actually a bit slower than most S&S towers. Nowadays I think S&S should do something regarding these towers, as their shots only make it about 3/4 up the tower.
There was/is a shot and drop on the German Fair, called Power Tower 2 and was/is owned by Schneider. I dont know of it is still traveling or where it whent. Maurer & Söhne build it. Apperandly it is called a free fall, but has it deffenatly shot and droped you. The gonel is suspender and puld down by cabbels, so in my eyes its not a complete free fall, I think? I whent on it in München a few year back and it was deffenatly fun!
It's sadly sold to Mellors and is now in Saudi-Arabia. It's not really a freefall but not a Shot n Drop either, I'd say something in between. I'm pretty sure I quickly mentioned it in the Flat Ride of the Week Episode 3.
Fun story: So, I live in Lake Charles, LA and every year around May there is a pirate festival called Contraband and it lasts for several weeks. It was my mother, her friend, my younger sister, her friend, my friend, and me. There was this tower ride(I dont remember the name) and I never rode it before. I am terrified of heights which makes riding rollercoasters hard. I didn't want to go alone my sister's friend went with me (my friend was too scared). So the operator straps us in, checks to make sure we're secured, and we're SLOWLY lifted up. About halfway up I start to panic at how high we are and I just remember wishing they would drop us now. So I look up at the ride to see if we were getting close to the top. The instant I look up to see the top of the ride it drops us. I clench my eyes shut and scream to the top of my lungs. Once the ride reaches the point where it catches us by slowing down, I'm a hysterical mess. I'm crying, and breathing really fast and all the while my mom, her friend, my younger sister, and my friend are rolling with laughter at my reaction. But in the end it was fun, I did enjoy the drop even though it scared the crap out of me.
Yes blast off at Darien lake gave crazy airtime until 2019. It was closed half of the year to add the new seatbelt but they also killed most of the airtime, I was very disappointed with my first ride after the modifications
Coldplay 325 my home park always neuters and gets rid of the best flat rides so I guess I’m used to it, we used to have an insane top spin that got removed
The sound of Adventureland's Space Shot hissing and pumping is a huge part of my childhood. I don't care for rides like that, but dang if those sounds don't bring back great memories.
The Intamin Drop Towers can also be customized. In my „home park“ Phantasialand a customized and fully themed Intamin Bungee Drop Tower is located. Its called Mystery Castle, was built in 1997 and ist abolutely stunning!
Double shot is what I have at my local park. It’s so fun!! When I first went on it I was talking with some ppl and they said the scariest part is the waiting to be shot up. And boy were they right.
I mean, I wouldn't know where to put them, but Disney's(Otis) Tower of terror? For me is the most thrilling of the drop towers, at least the one in Paris. Cool video!
The middle tower on the hershey triple towers has GREAT airtime! tbh it seems like the gs are kinda close to the ones on the cvrazy chinese one you showed video of
Dust My Broom didn’t see the seatbelt or hear the ratcheting part either, and I know they didn’t change the restraint to that first option when I went last August for the PNE, but when it eventually opens up again I’ll check.
The ones that bounce are personally less of an adrenaline rush, if you’re in SoCal the best ones are Supreme Scream at Knotts and Lex Luther Drop of Doom at magic mountain.
Orbit at La Ronde actually gives crazy air time, way stronger than the air time hills on Goliath (B&M hyper) in my opinion. I've been on 3 other shot towers last year and I was so disappointed.
The only drop tower i did in my life is an intamin 2nd gen freefall around 40 meters high at Gardaland, my home park. I would love to ride the oil towers at mirabilandia considering it's not so far away from my house but I'm only 12 years old so i can't decide. Awesome video by the way!
Wanted to share this When I was 15 I rode the sky screamer at six flags fiesta texas. One of the ride operates pulled my belt and it came out and just stuck it back in. I got REALLY WORRIED. When the ride started I checked my belt and it came out so I was 99 feet in the air with NO RESTRAINTS on a swing. If the ride had went backwords I would have flown out easy. I was screaming for my damn life and so was the person next to me becuase we had no idea what to do sooooo we just screamed. When the ride stopped I just ran away crying and didn't tell the ride operater and felt bad that someone else couldve gotten hurt if I didnt speak up

Hey my man love the content and live about 40 minutes away from cedar point. was wondering if they are still planning on opening this year? want to go with my friends so BAD and say hi :)
I think the s&s towers are banned in Germany like a few other s&s products, due to safety concerns. (I am not one hundred percent sure, but 90%) I think the wheels themselves and the plastic stoppers for security, if a wheel brakes, can’t be allowed by the German TÜV. As well as the old restraints without the safety belt and how the gondola was put together in general. Don’t look to close at them from an german engineering perspective, if u are about to ride them hahaha
i believe the wheels on the double shot are just to keep the gondola centered and to prevent a lot of movement (cause itll move a bit if guests are kicking their feet lol)
I think I have only ridden one of these, Its the dr doom free fall at islands of adventure. The launch up was fun and the bouncing was boring. It was too short though. Ive seen 2 other S&S drop towers but i was hoping you could tell me what model the skyline scream is at american dream and the hershey triple towers ar hersheypark

Millennium Force Man That’s a shame
Coldplay 325 my home park always neuters and gets rid of the best flat rides so I guess I’m used to it, we used to have an insane top spin that got removed
Millennium Force Man I’m happy my home park still has a Top Spin
Coldplay 325 it ain’t as intense as the one that existed at Darien lake
I am always looking forward to these flat ride videos! And can you please do a video on superloop type rides?
We have the original space shot in Finland at Linnanmäki, Helsinki. It's great
The sound of Adventureland's Space Shot hissing and pumping is a huge part of my childhood.
I love the sounds of these rides as well some are louder then others
I have yet to ride a drop tower, although one of my friends almost got me to go on one at the fair last year.
I might just try it now
I am proud to be operating the first Shot and drop tower detonator
your Indiana beach story- *NONE* of the seats lock. it also pulls some of the best airtime on a double shot.
Double shot is what I have at my local park. It’s so fun!! When I first went on it I was talking with some ppl and they said the scariest part is the waiting to be shot up. And boy were they right.
The Double Shot Towers are more insane the ejector airtime really makes them more fun
Some of the information in this video is just crazy!! 👀 I get nervous with drop towers lol
The first one i went one was the double shot, and it has been the last for quite a while now.
I've only ridden the Huss one by now, but I conceived it to be rather intense.
been on the legendary seat at Indiana beach... yeah, it was literally just the seat-belt holding it down... best ride on a double shot I ever had.
I mean, I wouldn't know where to put them, but Disney's(Otis) Tower of terror? For me is the most thrilling of the drop towers, at least the one in Paris. Cool video!
Both Tower of Terror rides in the US are great.
The middle tower on the hershey triple towers has GREAT airtime! tbh it seems like the gs are kinda close to the ones on the cvrazy chinese one you showed video of
Miney Thora That one in China looks absolutely mental it looked sped up at first
@@ThrillsofColdplay ye
ok that’s weird, none of the options you mentioned for S&S are on the Hellevator at Playland in Vancouver, BC. glad I’m not able to fit on it anymore.
Dust My Broom didn’t see the seatbelt or hear the ratcheting part either, and I know they didn’t change the restraint to that first option when I went last August for the PNE, but when it eventually opens up again I’ll check.
Watching these is very satisfying
The prototype of the S&S Space Shot is now at Magical Midway in Orlando.
I can't stop watching your videos but I'm not really complaining :)))
I've always thought it was cool that S&S is based out of my current college town of Logan Utah.
My home park has the original version of the space shot
Dude maitainance has balls of steel
I’m actually early for once. Kinda. Lol but one hour ago! For me the time would of been 6:30 am.
Wanted to share this
When I was 15 I rode the sky screamer at six flags fiesta texas. When the ride stopped I just ran away crying and didn't tell the ride operater and felt bad that someone else couldve gotten hurt if I didnt speak up
These are the only rides I won’t go on anymore I just hate the feeling I get when it drops!
I rode Liberty Launch at holiday world and I had an accelerometer in my pocket that read -1.4g on the top of the first launch.
Sweet
There is a drop tower in myrtle beach that only operates with a seat belt no other restraints it is fun best and scariest drop tower ever recommend it in the loop did a video on it the guy who took the video said it was the scariest drop tower he rode
Superman Tower of Power At Six Flags Over Texas and Power Tower at Cedar Point are the coolest looking ones
If I remember correctly, Superman Tower of Power SFOT is the tallest ride of its kind in N. America.
12:03 The combo towers at SFOT and SFFT have ladders inside the steel frame.
Host a coaster game show like what you did in your old debunk live streams
Has B&M made any flat rides or designed them in the past?
They have not made any that I am aware of.
Detonator was the first S&S SS. The one for Action Park in 96, compared to 95.
Imagine one of these at 400 Feet
Hey my man love the content and live about 40 minutes away from cedar point. was wondering if they are still planning on opening this year? want to go with my friends so BAD and say hi :)
I think the s&s towers are banned in Germany like a few other s&s products, due to safety concerns. (I am not one hundred percent sure, but 90%)
I think the wheels themselves and the plastic stoppers for security, if a wheel brakes, can’t be allowed by the German TÜV. As well as the old restraints without the safety belt and how the gondola was put together in general. Don’t look to close at them from an german engineering perspective, if u are about to ride them hahaha
i believe the wheels on the double shot are just to keep the gondola centered and to prevent a lot of movement (cause itll move a bit if guests are kicking their feet lol)
love your vids
I feel like I'm going to die every time I ride a drop tower, which is why I love them.
Exactly, so much fun!
Ocean city nj has a double shot and I know because they didn’t change the name or theming it’s just called double shot
I wish it was possible the bigger ones gave airtime like the smaller ones
I noticed that you did not include the drop towers that are added to the coasters such as Lex Luther and the ones on dragthrill racer..
Those are a different type of drop tower, they were covered in the mentioned FROTW episode 3.
You forgot to also mention about S&S's rotating option or the 20 seat configuration.
Where’s the video at 9:14?
You should do a video on action park.
There was one time, in a long time ago, At Dollywood mystery mine, A kid scream and they shut down the ride, I don't know why, Can you find out?
I dont even think keansburg has the new restraints for the double shot drop tower
I personally prefer a Fabbri Mega Drop. The one in Australia pulls -5.5G and goes 0-204km/h in 1.8 seconds :D
Neat
I thought the one at the top of the Tower in Las Vegas was the first. Worlds of Fun was the first twin structure.
Does a video exist of that one in China
That one in China though holy crap it looks sped up
Who makes the shot tower at Hershypark? It was by far my favorite out of the few that I have ridden.
Its a modern S&S tower!
I rode the one in the intro :)
Both are S&S towers, not exactly sure what model.
The Hershey tower at Hersheypark is a Rotating Tower model. The other two are either Space Shot, Double Shot, Turbo Drop, or Combo Tower model.
@@titan_thrills It actually isn’t. The rotation is _optional._
I want to find who disliked this video so I can harass them.
Why did coronavirus have to hit the year Great Escape gets Adirondack Outlaw. We were finally getting a new exciting ride, and then boom china says sike bitch.
My fav is doctor doom
That’s definitely the coolest looking one
What if S&S could be hired to build a Multi Complex Tower with 5 or 6 Towers!? 5 OR 6!
Intamin and Larson have the best drop towers
What do you think of lightning rod at dolly wood?
where can i go to find what inversions a coaster has?
Rcdb.com
Wowie
werent shot towers first than drop towers
I live in Higashinari-Ku, Osaka Whats the best flat ride around my ways you would say?
been on double shot my hole life in ocean city nj
what is Dr dooms fear fall . its a launch tower, right?
I think it's a Space Shot.
Yep!
