      Mr Brian... you have changed my life.... thank you ! I’ve been playing guitar for about 20 years. I have written about 75 songs and played about 500 gigs. I iHome about the circle of fifths a few years ago. I looked at the chart, watched some videos, went to the ice cream stand to eat my feelings away and thinking that I’d never be able to learn any of this. YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE. THANK YOU THANK YOU !!

    Holy crap, Brian! I started playing guitar, by ear, when I was 10. I’ve struggled for years trying to figure out the chord patterns. I’m now 66. This “circle of 5ths” is like someone just turned on the light and unlocked the secrets I’ve been searching for. Take this to heart - you have just changed my life for the better with this one video. People always say, “if I can just help one person then it was all worth it.” READ THIS: you didn’t just “help one person” with this video. You have literally changed my life and I will forever be grateful for what you’ve done here! I have been playing guitar since I was 16. I’m 44. This is THE MOST IMPORTANT CZcams VIDEO I HAVE EVER WATCHED!!!! This is THE MOST IMPORTANT GUITAR LESSON I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! Period. This video is life! So clear, so simple, so plain to understand. You just took boring, sometimes complicated guitar theory - and made it look like a paint-by-numbers coloring book. I’m now a subscriber, and if the rest of your videos are this awesome, I might just buy your guitar course. Anyone can teach guitar. It takes a special talent to teach it in a way that makes it simple and memorable. You, sir, are amazing. Btw, that’s a lot coming from me because I can be a pretty harsh critic. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    • @austonsmith536
      @austonsmith536 Před 4 lety +47

      no one can actually teach you guitar though... they will suggest stuff and tell you stuff but to be a guitarist there's no payment plan, easy fix, trapper keeper magick... you simply have to put the guitar in your hands and push those strings onto the fretboard and strum... keep doing that until you like what you hear. you're going to have to do this procedure every day for months to build grey matter in your brain. After a good 3 months of this painful and boring process you will be ready to actually attempt to learn actual songs.
      Sometimes you're going to feel like it's too difficult... how can someone put this finger there then there then back in seconds when you can't even get 1 finger in one spot without touching the other string... you'll probably get so pissed off and annoyed you'd rather just give up... put the guitar in the closet and not even think about it for awhile. And that's a good feeling because that means you can actually improve something in your life and that right there is your goal... YOUR OWN MIND. Prove to yourself that you can do it no matter what... and keep at it... take a small break, get away from it ... then before bed put in another 15 minutes to get just a few steps down before putting it up 'til morning. then when you wake up put a small 5 - 10 minutes to REMIND your muscle memory... then set it down again and forget about it. pick it up again after a few hours.
      This is the process of building grey matter in your brain... habitual actions. Once you can do it without thinking... you've pretty much IMPROVED YOU... your mind, body, confidence... everything really. You actually can admit to yourself truthfully that you were successful at something. And that's the no.1 reason why most people still pick up a guitar when there's no real reason. GOOD LUCK

    I've never made a comment on youtube before, however after coming across this video I felt I needed to say something. I've been playing guitar by ear for
    30 Years now, never read music on guitar, played along to my favourite metal/rock records etc. I'm now just beginning to play acoustic and trying to sing and play a few songs
    which I've never done before and feel like I'm starting from scratch again, which is ok by me i'm enjoying it. Brian thank you so much for uploading this video, I have learned so much in one
    half hour than I have in 30 years!! Never heard of the circle of fifths thing before, and you make it so concise and clear and simple, brilliant stuff, thanks man. Like I'm thinking wow can it be that
    simple?? Looking forward to learning this stuff now, thanking you again. Thin Lizzy forever...

For now thanks for clearing in my mind the whole 'borrowing from parallel keys' thing. It was one thing that confused me up to this point. Keep on keeping on. You're doing some great work 😀
