    if you shine a laser pointer through the centre of the clear maple leaf on Canadians polymer bills you can project the denomination onto a light coloured surface in a dim room

    You missed how Canadian money has a laser "lens" in each note as well. Shine a laser through the center of the maple leaf in the top left corner and the light pattern that exits shows the denomination.

    This has nothing to do with counterfeiting as it does using the microprint on a bill as a way of testing for irregularities in magnifiers. If you're not sure if your magnifier has a defect the microprint will be distorted and/or unreadable. Comes in REALLY handy when testing equipment for repairing watches or jewelry.

    The transparent maple leaf on Canadian currency is actually a diffraction grating. If you shine a pen laser through it you will see the bill's denomination in a circle projected onto the wall. very cool

    Mexico uses polymer plastic for its bills. Longer lasting but are very slick and fall out of wallets and pockets easier.
    You vids are very entertaining and I am always learning something I didn't know before.

    Well, as I can see from this video and other sources, it seems that here, in Romania, we have some of the most advanced bills. We use polymers, transparent windows, embossing and also a few extras which you didn't mention here.

    If you feel, for example, Andrew Jackson's coat on the $20 bill-it feels rough and can easily tell if it's counterfeit.

    Polymer money,was invented in Australia and first used in 1988 and the countries that use it pay Australia royalties.Our notes are next level in terms of Design, security features and colours.

    4:22 Well Australia who developed the polymer note used today started changing over to polymer notes in 1992, and by 1996 we had all polymer notes. Hardley 'recent' unless you count 20+ years recent. :)
    Still those countries using them is a good move in thwarting counterfeiters.

    Currency can also incorporate ferroelectric memory (FRAM) which can be read by stores, ATM's or banks. I presume someday this will be commonplace as it allows currency to be tracked and verified.

    I used a lot of these methods, and more, for detecting fakes while working as a cashier. As the Secret Service teaches, learn to identify authenticity and you can easily identify fakes.

    On Norwegian notes, there is also a security measure which I believe are used several places still, there is a vertical line at the end of the bill which is only visible through black light. On the 50 NOK note I believe it would glow purple when viewed under that light.

    If you think you are in possession of a fake note, don't bring it to a bank - they'll keep it without replacement. Try to get rid of it elsewhere.

    At 8:44, if you put a laser pointer in the center of the maple leaf, the denomination is produced as an image on the wall behind the bill.

    Australia has not "recently adopted a synthetic polymer" as it says @ 4:22.
    We had a commemorative $10 nearly 30 years ago in 1988, and were the first in the world to release a full set of plastic banknotes a quarter of a century ago. The last paper money was withdrawn from use in 1996 (though it is still honoured as currency at banks)

    I heard about numbers. Bill numbers have a a code. Each bill has a specific number and some some digits are added by calculation of an algorithm that, if the number is invented, won't be right.

    -There is also this one trick, if you take a one dollar bill, look at the top right corner very closely with a magnifying glass you can see a tiny owl, this won't show up on a fake-
