UPDATE: *I've passed my written with a 85% and am now 20 hours into my PPL training, already soloed and have some IFR/VOR time. now onto my Cross Country time building!* what a great video :)
*I LOVE THIS VIDEO* it is so extremely straight-forward and concise planning, all under 15 mins! thank you from a student pilot, taking my written in 1 week :)
Just starting my EASA PPL 30hrs in already and your videos have been a great help to me.
good to come back to this while working on my CFI , its crazy how quick you can forget the fundamentals while using forelight etc
Been out of the air for 10 years. I have forgotten a lot. You and this are both fantastic! Thank you!
Glad it helps! Share us on Facebook and around the airport with your friends! Check out our site and keep an eye out for the rusty pilot course!
Although i havent started formal training i watch all these videos that will put me ahead when i do thanks for sharing
same bro i haven't started yet but already got my written endorsement and nearly done with the book
Thank you for your assist on all of your videos.
I feel there is an urban legend being spread in these videos, there is a reference to "lights at night", which is partially true. The yellow areas are the Urban Area limit lines, while they have light at night they unfortunately haven't been updated in most places in the USA for over 40+ YEARS. This makes for a terrible navigation aid given urban sprawl in some locations. I called and talked to the FAA directly about this as I am an urban GIS Analyst and had to discuss why our airport was so outdated. They mentioned they are "response based" and not proactive. So if you or your fellow pilots notice errors on your VFR charts it's important to contact the FAA and request they update your area. In the future they plan to use the Census TIGER Urban Areas for increased accuracy, but that still doesn't include skydive drop point changes (or other changes) so keep an eye out and lets all help keep these charts as accurate as possible :)
This is useful. RE "In the future they plan to use the Census TIGER Urban Areas" - do you have a reference for this (or was it communicated verbally when contacting FAA)?
Thanks for taking time to make theses videos!
I just watched this video. Great job in explaining. I definitely learned from this.
You also need to remember that the VFR Sectionals at Sky Vector (et al) are not always current for airspace and obstacles. The aviator must update this information with the Chart Supplement Chart Bulletins section.
so helpful!! Thanks alot!
Thank you very very much!!
This will make me have an giant advantage in making my flightplan for school. I hope that if i really put work into it, i can win a co-pilot seat in a cessna and fly during schooltime. Wish me luck!
Very informative!!
Thanks so much, I really appreciate
thanks alot. very informative and crystal. feel sorry for those who disliked!
Excellent!
Great video. Thanks for posting. I knew about supplemental oxygen at night above 5,000 MSL but never heard using above 5,000 feet density altitude.
Density is a bit more what you're concerned with. That's how much oxygen is really in the air you're breathing. Height MSL is just a pointless number when it comes to performance of the plane and yourself.
Great video if i was a little farther along in training i could follow along with you as it were i need to brush up on basic terminology and symbols then re visit the video.....
Check out the VFR Chart Basics video on our channel! That will help bring you up to speed!
How should I decide from which direction I should land and where I should make a turn to align myself for the approach?
I know you posted this a while back, but what program are you using for the VFR Charts and planning? Your videos are very well put together and to the point. Thank you!
Great video. What if our path lies along with a prohibited area. how do we avoid that?
Don't you have to use the plotter e6b etc for a x country planning?
Lol I actually am training at Kpgd so this is really helpful 😂
Awesome! Swing by Venice when ya have some time! Pretty good little cafe to grab lunch at over here!
Could you please share me what is the name of that system using ? Or any famed system for flight plan as general ? Thx guys in advance
Man this is overwhelming :P .
Wow my house in colorado is higher than 5000 ft and i usually don't need supplemental O2 at night. Seems like an odd reg considering our local field kbdu lies at 5288 msl.
Some airports are hard to find at night in or near towns.
Thanks, nice information, but do you have video that explains all the signs and markers in the chart? Please.
Check out our VFR sectional basics and VFR sectional advanced videos! :)
How do you fly through airspace’s?
RED AIRPORTS ON THE VHARTS HAVE A RED AND GREEN BAKFAA LIGHT
Hi Jon -Thank You for the fantastic informative videos. My question is what open (air to air) frequency do you use when flying in class E and G air space? 122.8? Assuming you do not have flight following. Thanks Rob
Believe it or not....one doesn't really exist for true (airspace without a frequency assigned). 123.45 is air to air for things like formation flights. But as far as you see an airplane approaching in Class E or G airspace and want to call up to them to make them aware of your position, there isn't a frequency for that.
I fly out of Vancouver , Canada, and plan to fly down to the Oregan Coast soon. All your videos are greatly appreciated.
Jon, what flight planner did you use in this video?
I was using skyvector, seems to be one of the easiest to use with the most other "layers" available
Florida has a lot of Restricted and MOA zones....how often do you get to fly direct to your destination during the day when the direct route would go through these?
You cannot fly through the dimensions of a restricted airspace without getting permission from the controlling agency. If the airspace is not active you should be cleared through. With MOA's you can fly through without needing clearance.
CALLING THE CONTROLLING AGENCY IS LOCATED ON THE SIDE OF THE MAP CHART
YOU NEED A FOLDER IN MANAGEMENT PATH CALLED AIR TRAFFIC SERVICES. INSIDE IT, PUT A FOLDER IN CALLED CHARTS
What program are you using in episode # 109.. I’m a beginner pilot trying to figure all this stuff out thanks
Hi Vince, this course will help you out with your ground private pilot training. learn.fly8ma.com/courses/premium-private-pilot-ground-school/
Let us know if you have any questions and good luck!
The videos are great but there is somthhing wrong with the sound, i have to increase the sound to max. Does anyone have same issue or is it only me.
How about alternates?
From a non pilot. That blue area in the middle marked restricted airspace, is that ok to fly through?
You can fly into restricted airspace as long as you have clearance from the controlling agency.
Hello. Notice several posts are years old. Do you still post?
too bad kmlb vor/DME has been out of service for what seems like forever
MEF = 'Maximum' elevation figure.
BLUE AIRPORTS IN THE CHART IS BLUE BAKFAA ROTATING LIGHT
NERRRRRRDDD
Eeek. Thats right towers are not all 24 hours like 7-11
THE MAGENTA LINE IS GOVERNMENT
overwhelming
THIS IS PART 109-US GOVERNMENT PIOLT
Yeah don't nothing take off west, that flight plan off, stop playing like I'm stupid. 4
A great vid for newb. Excellent for part 107 prep. Thank you.
Not a problem! Safe Flying!
