Huzzah! The first person NOT to trash this game! Picked this up physically, figured out the weird interface pretty quick, and thought it was "okay"...except that Johnny, the dog in the leather pants, is voiced by KAGEYAMA HIRONOBU (vocalist for most DBZ songs, member of JAM Project, wrote GONG for SRW and so on) who happens to be my all time favorite vocalist. Been meaning to cover this myself but never got around to it and ya' did a good job. Also noticed that RED Entertainment worked on this too. They made Sakura Wars, Gun Grave, Bujingai, and many many more. Checking Mobygames though, Red and Cavia had very little to do with this. This is mostly Tamsoft and largely people who worked on Toshinden, Oneechanbara, and Senran Kagura. And yes, I DEEPLY miss games like this. I miss when music games had CHARACTERS that DANCED and a goofy story and unique gameplay.
Yeah I never play games to trash them :) If something is ever actually "bad" I like to switch the videos around to what happened during development that lead to that rather than just complaining for clicks. I love games I dunno I originally included a whole section about Kageyama right at the start but cut it because I figured it was a bit uninteresting to the average person. I still think it was probably the right move but it's cool to see there's somebody out there that would have wanted an extended version of this lol So - Cavia. I was obviously on the Mobygames page making this but I don't totally trust it. Looking through Reddit posts you find a *ton* of people gawking over this as the first Cavia game. The guys that created the English patch as well call it a Cavia game. Hardcoregaming101 also lists it as a Cavia game. Wikipedia too. Pretty much everything except Mobygames lol. It was enough for me to confidently-enough call it a Cavia game in the video but I wouldn't bet my life on it. Love the commentary and video! It's just a fun and quick style with an intriguing video. Also, I very much relate to trying to play with tons of cords and surround sound with a projector. It becomes chaotic.
Never heard of this one. Looks very...different for a rhythm game. Apparently Tamsoft also worked on a bunch of budget Simple 2000s games too, so maybe that's what is throwing me off.
Personally, if the game is going to be remade, the character models have got to be changed because they give off the vibes of a Cats rip-off and the interface for the player to time the notes with should be simplified.
@Norris you always seem like you're really knowledgeable so just finding a game you didn't know existed is a huge win tbh And @Primarch my dude I wouldn't worry about it too much. I think out of every game in existence, this is the last one I would ever expect to see remade lol
The other day I was talking with my friend about this. Aside from weird indie games on steam or stuff like that we dont have the same sensation of wonder and discovery that we had when we saw some weird title that no one ever talked a bout. Also I think its because of social media as well. I might have gave it a go if this landed on my hands.
as much as I want to say this is out there. It's pretty on point from the team that would end up getting Yoko Taro their start as the giant they have become. Might have to give this game a shot as a weird little game to compliment some of my other weird niche one off games.
Yeah do it up! I didn't mention it in the video but the voice actor for Frieza from Dragon Ball has a song in here lol The english patch is literally just a pre-parched ISO btw. No actual work required beyond finding it
I would make a quippy reply on how this is Cats The Game, but honestly- I think it is! Like, it feels so very very blatant that the designers took inspiration from Cats, there can't even be any question of it. Can't say I'd have an easy time figuring out the UI though, it really does look like a lot of distractions that prevent me from even idly watching the nice dance-choreographs. Feels like counter-intuitive design to me.
Fun fact: I made a Discord group DM, which was promptly commandeered and turned into the project space. Yeah, not even a server; it was made over a group DM.
