- This is a video consisting of a compilation of scenes featuring one unsettling villain from my memories, the evil ex-leader of the Hyper Force, Mandarin (voiced by James Hong), from the show Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go! His slow degeneration from grace to savagery made him an interesting villain to witness. Hope you enjoy him as a much as I did.

The fact we got a cartoon with Dao long wong, principle louis, beast boy, the joker and mr. Krabs all in one place is amazing.

Mandarin was my second favorite villain in the show after Skeleton King. Heroes who turned evil are always catching my interest.

I honestly wish the show continued because I always hopeed the original Mandarin would return and face off against his clone. I mean the clone has Mandarin's memories and acts as if they happened to him, though I could easily see the Mandarin clone attempting to kill off his original while the original mocks him for being a pale imitation.
Honestly, Mandarin was at his best in his debut. He beat the monkey team effortlessly and stood up to Skeleton King, if briefly. Then he came back as a hulking brute, and was not as interesting, until he was "replaced" by the clone, who proved to be just as dangerous. Kinda wish he went the starscream route, and plotted behind King's back (though he would be smarter than scream and not loudly proclaim his plans in front of Skeleton king). Despite my nitpicks on how the character was developed later on in the series, this was still a great highlight video for the fallen leader of the Hyper Force.
Yeah, when I saw the brute form all I thought was the writers must really want Chiro to fight a Bane from Batman type villain.
I think they were going the whole deal with the devil rout and were trying to make the Skelton King as intimidating as possible by not allowing anyone get close.
I agree that he was at his best in his debut, but I never really minded the brute form. To me it showed that he was willing to go to any length to get his revenge. But I hated the fucking clone! I just couldn't stand looking at the damned thing, knowing it wasn't the real Mandarin, and that the real Mandarin was either dead or rotting in some prison. What bothered me even more was that everyone was treating him like he was the original. I understand they probably didn't know about the switch, but it would have been interesting if they had figured it out.
I follow Ciro Nieli on FB, and while he does seem interested on at least finishing the last season like it deserves, he hates Disney and would probably prefer to do it with another network. That is if Disney is willing to give up the rights to the show and return them to him as the creator.

on the other hand they may have just retconned the whole thing and just chose to ignore the giant brute form never happened.

5:39 Mandarin: A man who had been bested by a group he had immense spite for and a kid who he wanted to follow in his lead. He wasn't a moral monkey, but he was an honorable and respectful one, trying to convince Chiro that he deserves better even when his loss was closing in. Even filled with hatred and spite, he showed the one thing you rarely come out of a villain. Compassion, enough to allow Chiro one final time to believe in his philosophy. Sure he did it once and kinda spiraled into madness, but that moment from his is the best to come from that weird robotic chimp and has brought attention to this show. This has been slenderface123, and you just read a short essay in the comment section of a cartoon montage.

That scene at 8:31 rubs me the wrong way.
All the tension between Mandarin and the Monkey Team comes from the fact that _he_ was once its leader, and _he_ would have a serious grudge against its new leader. Surely the Skeleton King had the means to remodel his life force into that frame.
But instead, a false Mandarin is shown to the real one is his last living moments. From then on, the Hyperforce faces something that _literally isn’t_ the Mandarin they once knew.
I really appreciated the existential horror of simply replacing him like that
The problem with that point is that mandarin tried to make chiro into him so he isn't jealous of chiro or I might be wrong
The thing I don't understand is why the hyperforce never mentioned or cared to mention that it is a different mandarin. I call him formandarin a combination of mandarin and formless or maybe mandarmless

deathshadow2492 They were a team and were at one point really close. It's natural for someone to cling to the hope that the person they used to care about can change back to how they used to be.

@@teammystic4life38 you forget that even before he was awful to nova and betrayed the hyperforce he started the process of making the alchemist into the skeleton king. There was never hope for him.

something about his design always gave me anxiety, for some reason it just reminded me of watership down...the whole film(?). I just felt like he was always on the verge of doing something super messed up and spilling copious amounts of blood.
I agree, the design for the Monkeys' un-armoured form always creeped me out a bit.
This was one of the last great shows I can remember from when I was a kid. So many talented voice actors at the peak of their careers coupled with animators that made the whole thing that much more interesting.

Can you blame him? He was once a respected and well groomed warrior, albeit an evil one. Sadly, corrupted over the course of the series. Replaced, cloned, and altered in so many abominable ways. It's enough to drive anyone insane...

If they would've added one more season, it would've been a three-part origin episode where one of them is about the monkey team that was still under Mandarin when was still young. Along with that, it would've given us a bit more of what actually led him to this path of evil.

He was always my favorite monkey his original design before he was imprisoned was amazing. He even had red eyes.

I liked the original Mandarin. Makes me wonder what happened to him after he was replaced by his clone? Was he killed? Or locked away? It never explained what happened to him
Someone apparently had an interview with Ciro Nieli who finally answered the question. The original Mandarin is still alive, he's just locked up somewhere, and they supposedly had more planned for him.
I have a theory that the clone is the original, and the beefy Mandarin is a clone. First of all, the clone Mandarin frequently used power primate abilities like monkey mind scream and levitation, but Antauri said that the power primate couldn’t be replicated in clones. The big Mandarin never had any power primate abilities, more fitting of a clone. The big Mandarin was in charge of cloning chiro, which makes no sense as Mandarin is a warrior. It makes more sense that as a clone, he would be suited to run a cloning experiment. The clone Mandarin is organic, as seen when he decays in episode 52 with Valeena and Chiro in the dark one dimension. Plus, why would Skeleton King take Mandarin, the strongest monkey, make him weaker and big, and then just replace him with a clone who resembles the old Mandarin. I think the big Mandarin was a placeholder until Mandarin was finished being prepared by Skeleton King.

Cyborgs with a mostly organic structure, except for Antauri who became fully robotic after the events of "I, Chiro".
So.... how is mandarin organic and old if he was a robot monkey? Or am I forgetting something from the show?
At that point, the monkeys were organic creatures with metallic hulls. Some scenes make it a bit easier to spot, like Antauri’s sacrifice in “I, Chiro” and Sparx’s eye surgery in “Night of Fear”.
Antauri, Sparx, Gibson, Otto, Nova and Mandarin are cyborg monkey's, from season 3 onwards Antauri is revived as a full fledged robot monkey

While James Hong does a decent job, and can does well in some areas, I think he might have been miscast as Mandarin, because his hammy and sometimes awkward performance isn't really suitable for this old, sinister, fallen hero type character who isn't really supposed to be comedic, at least mostly. They should have gotten somebody else like Sam Witwer instead, even if he didn't voice Darth Maul until several years later, but that's just an example of the type of guy they should have gotten to voice him.
yea sometimes i wasnt expecting the way james delivered his lines, but he was great at making mandarin sound sadistic and made gutteral noises that made the character seem crazy
