Korg NAUTILUS - All Playing, No Talking Sound Demo

  • In this video we explore a variety of sounds across the program and combination banks on NAUTILUS. The sounds on NAUTILUS were designed with three broad categories in mind: Standard sounds, that provide all of the most important instruments you need to cover any genre. Current sounds, which focus on cutting-edge modern music production, and Unique sounds, which draw upon completely new sampling and programming techniques to deliver never-before-heard instruments, layers, live-recorded phrases, and much more.

      M50 has the better interface, sadly. They gimped the Nautilus in favor of more clunky menu diving for some of the simplest, most basic fuctions. I hate using it, otherwise, I love the sounds and overall sound quality. Not buying, ya dun goofed again, Korg.

    Have just bought one of these, having been a dedicated Yamaha player. First impressions, very powerful instrument, good keybed. Piano, strings, organs,synths etc, incredible sounds, very adjustable. Woodwinds not so good but I've got those covered with my Genos.
    Overall, delighted with it.

      I also got one of these. I find it the best rompler I have had since Kurzweil k2661, I am having a lot of fun out of it. I have owned Yamaha Motif ES, Roland Fantom X, Korg Triton LE, Korg TR, Korg N364, Roland Juno G and Nord Stage 3 (I will exclude the VA and analog synths of this list). The best of that list to me are Kurzweil k2661, Korg Nautilus, and Nord Stage 3.

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Před rokem +1

      Live stage play really comes down to the demands of what and how, than it does the board being good enough. Mainly because very few of us use a single board option in those scenarios. For one its good to have a backup board anyway and on the other, the vast range of sounds required makes it far safer to just move between tiers than mess with one device.
      So in other words you'll have numerous bases covered on different devices. One of which could easily be a nautilus. Likely the only reason people might avoid it in that setting is the lack of real time controls over something like the Fantom-0. Which of course most people are aware has sliders, pads and numerous other onboard hardware. Comparatively the Korg is limited to its touch screen. Which might not be ideal on the stage for a good few people.
      If you're like me and pre-prepare everything - which applies just as much to boards like the modx as the Nautilus - then it might not affect you either way.
      People are using a lot of master boards as hubs these days. Integrated with DAWs and a host of other devices. Things like the Fantom have really been designed with that in mind, rather than a do-everything board.
      If people want to have a nautilus with the hands-on controls, it can be worth seeking out a second hand Kronos 2 which has those additions of course. But it comes at quite the cost of late with so few on the second hand market. Might not be worth it to everyone.

I put it away for the most part after I bought a Motif 6 which also still works today. But even back then the Korg atmospheric sounds , pads, saxes and strings were amazing. I'm going to be moving soon into a house with a big/family/music room so I think I will get the Nautilus.

      I agree. After watching this I am considering trading my Yamaha Cp88 for this.

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Před rokem +1

      They are of course very different devices.
      If you own a Yamaha CP88 then it is a dedicated digital Piano. One with a top of the line acoustic-sim action. To be clear, this is a key action that is suitable for advanced classical repertoire and whilst lacking in some small areas (compared to a much heavier device) it's considered one of the best in class here. Compared to Korg - they come nowhere close to what the Yamaha offers you in Piano recreation. Thats the point.
      The Korg Nautilus on the other hand is a slighly cheaper and modified release of the prior Korg flagship 'Kronos 2'. Which needs no introduction. It is a full music workstation. 9 engines designed to give you everything you need in a single box to approach different genres and uses.
      It has MANY things that the CP88 does not.
      That all said the CP88 and Nautilus are NOT in the same range of instrument. You CANNOT grade in classical music on the Nautilus. Even with the x8 88 key. It simply lacks the keybed. Which is where Yamaha invested. As a stage PIANO. That is it's 'extreme' focus. Everything it is was focused on that.
      So if you do NOT need a top of the line PIANO action; and instead would like a multi-purpose SYNTH keyboard - then yes Nautilus would serve you well. Inline with Modx and Fantom-0.
      Although I have my bias I would say each have their pro's and cons. Nautilus - no hands on control and some people 'hate' menu diving on touch screens (they'd prefer laptops and software). The Modx has amazing sounds - but its build suffers somewhat and it's very deep for some people (too much). The Fantom-0 has great hands on controls and interaction with DAW. It's main appeal is as a central hub. Much like the larger version. That said what they gain in controls, they lose somewhat in the versatile engines, memory, sequencing and build (assuming cheaper version). So it really is up to you. Like choosing between Pepsi, Cola or Pepper. You decide which suits you best!

    • @ispianist
      @ispianist Před rokem

      @ErraticFaith if you are looking strictly for key bed action I would not recommend the cp88. The key bed action is far from an acoustic piano. I own it. I also ownt the studiologic numa x piano gt. That one beats the cp88 out of the water. Feels very close to steinway piano. I highly recommend it If you are looking for best key action.

    • @ErraticFaith
      @ErraticFaith Před rokem +1

      I use one every day. It’s not an action for everyone but it is vastly superior to the KORGs which is why it can be used right up to mid-tier formal grading.
      I doubt most people playing nautilus practice classical composition to that standard however. It’s only really bested by the Kawai grand feel in terms of performance for high speed pieces. Something like the KORG Rh3 is too slow. That’s why it’s barred from formal examination. Much after that you need a proper acoustic piano.

    At first I thought this was a Kronos replacement but after watching another video I realize this more of a mid class offering and not the 'high end' Kronos replacement. When that board comes out I would have to think it won't be an easy board to suplant. Perhaps it will have less load up time, a better piano sound, have an easier menu to edit along with more intuitive sampling, be a little lighter in weight and of course, update some of the accompmaniments to reflect the times. Otherwise, the Kronos has set the standard and that standard is high.

    Sounds breathtaking. Still have some doubt between the Yamaha Mode due to its technical plus side, but I hate diving to deep into it. Sometimes people just want to play instead of knob turning the hell out of their fingers. In what sense does Korg offer a more playable feeling over the MODX ?

    Nautilus should be Krons minus Sequencer making it as a Synthesizer (With no compromise on Aftertouch & Faders while the other functionalities are easily done through touch screen). KORG badly missed the trick here.

  • @ERICSATIE83
    @ERICSATIE83 Před 3 lety +6

    Despite the fact that I enjoyed the demo and many sounds I think Korg made a mistake when removed many knobs/sliders on the left. They were very useful when someone played an organs or wanted to change the sound `right away on the stage`. I don't think this new Nautilus is a step forward, I think it is equal to Kronos and some some points Kronos is even better. I was waiting 10 years to see some fabulous instrument but here I see just a good `new old Kronos`. The performer did his best to present all the best sides of this instrument. Well done! In any way - Korg does not have serious competitors as other brands are much much worse IMHO (if you compare technical side, quality of sounds and possibilities).

      @@Culture_of_Ghosts Maybe this is an option BUT when you play on a stage and need quickly change some slider so it may be not so convenient when this additional gadget is laying on a keyboard as it is not firmly connected to it and may fall down. Don't you think so?
