    Even though Seven Days in June isn't a comedic book, it has my favorite type of comedy. Y'know, the kind of comedy that doesn't make me laugh out loud, but makes me go "ah, that's clever."

    when you said "it's really close to 5 but there's just something missing for me, i can't put my finger on it" that is EXACTLY how i feel about emily henry's books as well!! hypothetically, they should be 5 stars right? everything seems perfects and i really genuinely love them, she's so talented at writing & i connect to her characters. they're just really well written books. i also have no idea what's missing but they're always a hair away from 5 stars for me.

      Literally me too! I know I loved the book and it basically fixes the issues I have with most romance books but… it’s just not a five star. I might not know what exactly was missing for me but it’s always completely obvious to me when a book is a five star read and this didn’t feel like one

    book lovers is the only emily henry book that I've thoroughly enjoyed. I know some people felt like the sister relationship overshadowed the romance, but personally I loved that nora spent time working on herself & her trauma instead of just pouring herself into a relationship & pretending like a man can make all her problems go away. I also thought it showed that charlie was confident in himself enough to let nora be her own person & not have to be with her every minute of the day. it was a great representation of a normal, healthy relationship imo & the banter actually made me lol 💖

      I am the opposite of you! I didn't like Book Lovers in the slightest and liked Beach Read more. I think because I was expecting more of a build up with the romance and we kinda just got instalove? However, the sister relationship was great there.

    • @matchagrlie
      @matchagrlie Před rokem

      @@queenb2450 I actually was so bored reading Beach Read. The cult stuff took way too much space in the book and I didnt see the appeal in Gus lol he just sulked too much and was way too pessimistic and I guess I just didnt find the appeal in any of that XD I also didnt really connect to January at allll
      I agree with OP, Book Lovers for me was the most enjoyable. Loved the banter and Charlie

    • @matchagrlie
      @matchagrlie Před rokem +4

      I absolutely LOVED that Nora didnt have to let go of who she was just to be with Charlie or to make her sister happy. She stayed true to herself even when that meant letting go and dealing with the outcome of that. I wouldve hated if they wouldve made Nora stay back and give up her life and everything that makes her HER just for a guy. I also loved that Charlie understood that. The banter was so great and it really showed a healthy relationship with good communication.

      The premise is good but I didn't enjoy the execution. Idk why, but the author just has such mediocre writing and it doesn't pull me in. It's very slow to read and I'm sure some people like it, but most people agree that her books are okay at best, and not amazing

    16:31 I felt the same way about Charlie. Like I'm not acespec but I am neurodivergent as hell and the way he would literally put my own thoughts, feelings, and experiences into words. Like I could not BELIEVE how deeply I related to him. No character has ever made me feel more represented or seen in not only experiencing social anxiety, but for the specific reasons WHY I have social anxiety.
    Side note: you should read A Charmed Christmas, a bonus Christmas chapter that Alison Cochrun wrote and posted on their website. It melted my heart as much as the actual book did.

    Love to see you finally found some romance books you are excited about!!
    I recently read Not My Problem (by Ciara Smyth) and you might like it, there is a sapphic romance and it also touches a lot on family issues and friendship.

    I felt the same way with Emily Henry’s books. Especially the book lover, there was just something missing! I gave it a four star tho. And yes the content warnings please!!

    The charm offensive seems over the top and fun and out there at first until you start crying

    I reaaally needed this video. I am SURE that I'll feel super motivated and happy after this! And I recently read Book Lovers and I felt EXACTLY the same way! I gave it 4.5 because I just couldn't give it 5. I felt like there was just some tinyyyy thing missing but I couldn't quite place it

    the sapphic romance book i loved the most is the dark wife by sarah diemer. it's a sapphic retelling of persephone and hades. it's not the best book i've ever read or anything but the romance was really really good and writing was well. i highly recommend!!!!!

    I have a suggestion :3 What about a video of books that have representation you connect to the best? Where it's cultural, religious, mental health, or anything else - just books that you feel connected to in a real way.

    Just finished “Book Lovers” and thought it was pretty good but “Beach Read” is still my all time fave rom com. Gus is ❤️.

    i love everything about this video, loved seeing you geek out about love and romance and dumbasses finding their dumbass soulmates and waxing lyricals about them because that is my Ish. i'm so happy i wasn't the only one already yelling into the void less than 100 pages into a lady for the duke. they were my everything. Everything!!!!!

    I picked up Lady for a Duke after I saw it on your Goodreads and I just can't thank you enough, it was one of the highlights of my month (the other being Once and Future Witches). I completely agree with your review, there were one modernized passage that completely threw me, but otherwise this book was the utter perfection.

    I really came here to see your review of A Lady For a Duke...
    I just love Viola from the get go🥲😭😭 and Gracewood. The emotions this book made me feel, the things I felt when Gracewood realized who Viola "was before".
    It's one of my favorite books this year.
