Carol was way too hard on Sonia. I mean Carol shouldn't have said to the policewoman that she should take Sonia down the station and properly 'arrested' her. Besides, Sonia was only 11 years old and wasn't doing anybody any real harm. You could see how scared Sonia was, when the police officer came up to her outside the station.
I really don't see that she did anything horrible enough to be grounded indefinitely! She played a trumpet for change, she didn't pickpocket or shoplift!
