  • Whirligig Wars 2015 Entry: The Sawmill! First off I would like to thank the hosts of this competition, Mainly Laney Shaughnessy. I also thank Steve Ramsey for being part of it as well.
The Sawmill was a very well thought through whirligig that took me many hours of thinking and constructing. The idea came from an assignment I did last year about the history of the Timber Industry in Australia. The project was a very big challenge for me due to school and school work itself being in the way. But I managed to complete it to the best of my ability.
I wish all the entrants luck in the competition.

Wow! Very smart having the mechanism as part of the display. In a class by it's self.

BCdesign Thank you for wishing me luck, took me a while to figure out how to change the axis of rotation then turn that rotational movement into a crank like movement but I got there in the end. Thank you for commenting!

That's pretty awesome. It's so hard to believe, but that isn't so different from how those things really operated- one giant spinning shaft that would power so many tools! That guy should not be running that log through backwards, though; he's risking a kickback!
