- Some phone calls about the Jimmy Vs Opie fight from "Opie with Jim Norton" that raised an eyebrow when I heard them on "The Sam Roberts Show".

Jesus tits, these callers had to be staged. The reason people don't stick up for Opie is because he's the common denominator of the bullshit. He can't get along with people. You've never heard Jimmy vs Anthony in the way Opie fought with them both. The shit Ant said about Opie is true while Opie lies and reflects his own issues onto Anthony. How about one of these "callers" try giving one example on what Jimmy could have said in defense of Opie that would have gone against what Ant said and would have been credible. They couldn't do it, so they can't back up their claims. Plus, every person who leaves, being fired or finding other work, shits on Opie. Why is that... hmmm? You weren't kidding when you said that this raised some eyebrows, Jason.
It's true. I was next to Adrian waiting for a drink at a Japanese bar in NY about 3 weeks ago and we talked about the show. I told him that I missed him on the show and asked why he wasn't put on the air more often and he said they keep him busy doing production shit behind the scenes now. Although he admitted some weird shit...like that Sam took the money that Dr. Steve collected on PayPal for Lady Di's rent, claiming it was going to be passed on to her son (since they have reached out to him in the past to help her.) But meanwhile that money never made it to Di because they dropped the ball on contacting him. Not long ago, Di was put into the looney bin by her son and her assets were liquidated to pay medical bills.
After all that time, the money was left floating around, so Opie ended up suggesting to Adrian to use it for show bits, giving the excuse "we'll pay it back later, we've given her a ton of money over the years." So Adrian ended up spending some money on a software program for editing videos on Opie's channel and the rest on a cheap phone service with fake callers.
He said that they receive so much hate on the call screeners that they don't even bother using the lines anymore. It takes too much time to sort through the calls. Yes, the lines are "lit" but not with people they actually talk to. Adrian instead has to feed Opie, per request, a fake caller who can start a topic for a guest. It's referred to as a "middle-man producer." Meanwhile this is the same type of shit hacky, morning-zoo shows would do for prank calls...Sadly.
Anyways, it was disappointing to hear but I understood it. Jimmy apparently taps out for those calls because he hates that Opie does it.

+Hoorah778 I think it's easy to trash talk something after you lose it, but at the end of the day I think Sam's point is if it wasn't for Opie, Ant would have never been a millionaire, Jimmy wouldn't have had such a fan base, we would never have known about his characters, some of the comics on the show wouldn't have made as much money, wouldn't have had their own show, etc. Yes, they can all talk some shit, but he's helped people's careers tremendously and to go "he brings down the mood when he has a bad da" is not such an issue when you have an easy job where you make lots of money and when you wouldn't have it if it weren't for him.
Make no mistake, Sam is a smart SOB, he knew Opie could get him opportunities that's why he put up with all kinds of shit early on. Anyone who said "f this I'm out" didn't really get anywhere. At the end of the day you can weigh the pros and cons or you can just complain about the negative stuff. All I can say is I too may have people at work or clients who are hard to deal with, but if I made 10x what I make and worked only 3-4h a day I'd feel a little better about it.

Sure, Opie helped out all those people that you mentioned but he got to that position to where he could he them out from the help of Anthony and later on with Jimmy. So they helped each other out. Opie was always the radio guy but the fact is he never made it big until he hooked up with Anthony and Ant's humor and impressions made their show alot most fun to listen to. Of course Opie had his asshole moments that were great radio bits as well.
The point is that it seems extremely suspicious that damn near every post you see online is against Opie, which based on years of evidence is extremely justifiable, yet every call that Sam took was for him. The chances of those numbers being completely reversed and knowing what most fans know seems so unlikely that it's hard to come to any other conclusion except for it being staged. I think every long time fan gets that Opie is the much harder person to deal with than Anthony is. You even see a huge difference by the way they both response to each other. Ant was the one who got fired yet he's the one that seems upbeat while Opie is so miserable.
You may blame some of that on the fan backlash but that's mostly because the fans have seen enough evidence themselves and know that what Anthony has said is true while Opie won't own up to any of it. Even Jimmy pointed this out but Opie acts like he should have stuck up for him just because he's there with him despite Ant's claims being truthful. That's chicken shit. Opie acting like Anthony has this magically persuasion over the fans instead of owning up to his own flaws is pretty telling in itself. Opie acts like Ant "isn't over it" but he only talks about Opie on his show when he replies to whenever Opie speaks about him and lies. So of course he's going to respond.
Ant's also right when he mentions how insecure Opie is. You hear it all the time. Like his point about Opie bringing up how management likes the show. Opie never cared about what management thought when they were on top but now he needs their validation. Or when he was talking about him and Jimmy having good chemistry and then changing his tune about that recently. Chemistry being "getting alone with him" apparently. Or pretending that an average show was really great. Or even telling the callers "thanks for listening" when he didn't used to say that because he knows he's at a low point in his career.
For years Opie took pride in battling other radio guys and claimed that Howard was "afraid of them" when in reality Howard could give 2 fucks about Opie. When it comes to little Anthony though, no mention to his response. In fact, he just pretends the show never happened. They didn't even mention his fight against Jimmy the next day. Talk about a guy who can't practice what he preaches. I could go on and on with the examples of strong evidence but you being a fan already know this I'm sure.
I know Sam looks to Opie more as a mentor than he ever did Anthony because Opie was the radio guy but he is also still there in the same building as him so his bias was shown. I'm not sure where Opie stands over him at this point, like if he's still his boss, I'll assume so since I believe he does his show on his channel. Not 100% sure but it obviously weighs in on what he chimed in with.

Very one sided but not surprised, with everything that went down everyone still at SiruisXM is on Greggie boat. But the only person to have an honest opinion is Jim and because of that honesty we have this "event" that happen. Jim doesn't care what Greggie wants, Jim is going to do what he wants to do and that reminds me a lot of Patrice O'Neal.

In response to the guy who was disturbed by the perceived lack of respect and loyalty of Anthony and Norton, and the fact that Anthony might still be doing HVAC work if not for Opie, while it might be the case that circumstance might have led to his continuing to work in that field, the fact of the matter is that if you think that talent and ability should be the basis for success, then obviously Anthony should NEVER have been relegated to menial low-wage labor in the first place. He and Norton are both gifted with a combination of the traits of extreme mental quickness and comedic genius which result in the absolute best comedy radio possible.
So what happened? Should we listen to the audio from a specific episode? Are you going to post it? Was it a good fight? I feel like I don't have context for this but I appreciate the post.

I think that Opie, Anthony, and Jimmy are just collectively frustrated with how things turned out. Opie and Anthony are both too proud to want to work it out. Jimmy probably feels awkward as hell retaining his friendship with two guys who seem to hate each other at increasing levels, along with fan bases who do the same.
The thing is, both Opie and Anthony, on their separate ways, are getting rather predictable. It happens over time to all of us, and I think both of them are seeing it, and are reacting to it.
Jim's been one to ride whatever train he catches. He's mentioned he makes more money touring than doing radio, but he just loves doing radio. It's got to be heartbreaking that he's not having as much fun as he used to - and it's not because he chose to work with Opie - it's simply because he can't work with both Opie and Anthony together. I think he'd feel just as bummed if it was just the Anthony and Jimmy show every day as well.
I think Jimmy had more fun doing it with both of them. He's very adaptable with ANY other person. But something just really worked when it was all three of them... and I think they all know it. Perhaps a part of them hates the fact that it worked so well with three of them.
What I'd like to know is will Opie plan to fry off some minced beef and slide it between his big and greasies?
Here's the thing about Sam; he's smart. He knows how hard it is to break into radio nowadays. He knows Opie sucks. He knows what it takes to make good radio (ex. Special Delivery). Of course he's not going to shit where he eats, it's his primary source of income, and to shit on Opie would essentially be committing career suicide.
You can say what you want about his show, his voice, whatever. But don't act surprised that Sam would defend Opie while broadcasting on OPIE'S CHANNEL. Perhaps some years later we'll get an insider look like he did with Scorch.
