The beauty of the tele is it’s a boat paddle with some electronics, no matter how fancy you try to make it. Forget spending a lot of money. Just get one with a neck that you like. Otherwise, just get any old tele, set it up really nice, swap the pickups if you want and you’re golden. No need to spend big on them.
@thebigs It's not just about the neck... unless you are cool with nine pound guitars the body matters as well. Many budget T-style guitars are quite heavy or the ones that are reasonable weight are made with very soft wood that dents easily and sometimes doesn't even hold screws all that well.
