This video was really really helpful for me. My ticking was very faint but I have a 2010 equinox and I know the 3.0 HFv6 in it is a ticking (ha) time bomb, so I’m always paying a lot of attention to it. I was afraid it was valve train/lifters/whatever related, but noticed that the ticking didn’t change speed when I gave the engine a little gas (and my idle was just a little rough). Thank you for having this video to point me to the purge valve. Very relieved to have the problem solved with one $65 trip to O’Reilly’s. One tip I have is I didn’t even need to unplug the cable. I could tell the ticking was coming from the purge valve just by touching the side of it with my hand. The valve was noticeably shaking in time with the ticking noise. Thanks again.
@gman20031 yes you will, being that the purge valve is in association with the fuel you will hear it there also,do you have issues with it starting, like you try to start it and it cranks more then usual, that's the purge valve

Your welcome
Hello, great video! I have been struggling to find the location of the OCV (Oil Control Valve) on a 6 cylinder Terrain, do you know where it is?
Do you have a code
I have a 2011 mine don't start ticking until it warms up and when you accelerate it gets louder is this the same thing?
Check their codes. A p09101 code will do this also. This is a fuel pressure valve sensor.
Yes mine did the same thing
This noise, did yours come an go at idel an driving slow?
Yes it did, that's why it was so hard to find
Would it cause the vehicle to shudder for a second when starting ?
Absolutely, mine did the same thing especially after I got gas
My daughter's Terrain make loud noise like it was timing chain. Replaced it noise still there. It doesn't make any codes. Please help
Is it a ticking noise and does it get louder as you drive
@@RWgarage its not ticking. the motor is loud. when its in gear its louder. thanks for responding!
Thanks! This helped a lot. I think this is my problem
Good,I'm glad it helped,a lot of people don't realize that it's something so simple, instead they think the worse,I'm just trying to say people money
Would this cause the engine light to come on ?
Yes it can cause a check engine light to come on
Could this be the same for the 2.4L engine?
It could be,I would start the car and unplug it and see if it changes the sound of not the 2.4 are one for having there own issues, let me know
The L4 engine does this too.
Yes they do
Is it normal for this tapping sound to be heard in the gas cap area as well.
Absolutely, the sound comes right in the cab and that's why people thinks the engine is knocking but it's not
@@RWgarage sorry had to correctly spelling I hear it not just in cab but in the gas cap area as well.
