Nice, especially on such minimal mixes. Under a wall of sound, I actually like to hear a delay more defined, but here, sounds it beautiful. Btw. very appealing vocals.
Adding a reverb after the delay was new to me. I always use two seprate FX tracks for delay and reverb, but that doesn't work as well for smoothing out the delay. As for EQ, some delays and most reverbs has that option bulit in, so you often not have to add a separate eq plugin for this. Another good trick that is easy to use in Cubase is to put a compressor after the delay and sidechain it to the vocal track so that it compresses when you sing and releases when you don't. That is great for making the vocal clear and upfront ans stil be able to use rather big amounts of delay.l
For EQ, you're right, most Reverbs has a filter option, apart from the FabFilter Pro-R the EQ in reverbs are a bit limited for what I need to do but yes they can definitely be of good use :-) For your second trick, I did a video on this a year ago... Doesn't work necessary on everything but very cool to do czcams.com/video/ozseVOOEAHY/video.html Thanks for your input brother!
Great! Amazing voice and piano sounds so great. The EMT 140 plate sounds very good. Seems a good combination echo and plate on ballads. Vould be nice if you could do videos on other styles/genres Anyway Thank you so very much I learned a lot. Tom
This song is so touching.. i dont know the meaning as I m from india and dont know this language. But the pronounciation is sooo much pretty and soft that I havent listened such a sweet song yet.. thanks for this song
Great Tip again! Unfortunately it was a Little bit blurry to see. As I understand you have an fx-channel where you put Delay, Reverb and EQ on instead of two separate fx channel one for Delay and the other for Reverb. Can you Please do a video where you describe different Delay-types and how, where, and when to use them ?
Yeah, that answers your previous question about Delay and Reverb combination. I did put Reverb after the delay on the same channel to smooth the delay a bit...that's why they're on the same channel. But you can definitely use Delay and Reverb on separate FX channels.
What's the reason for placing the delay on the FX channel as opposed to using it as an insert on the vocal track itself? En passant, j'adore que tes videos sont dans Cubase! Continue!
First to get more control on that FX channel and to keep it Stereo opposed to mono like the vocal track... You can achieve more on using an FX track for this. I think I'll produce a video on this, it will be easier to explain... Good question.
Great! I look forward to that video! :) I'd also like to see one that addresses ASIO Guard and all that other VST Audio System dialog box options to optimize recording vocals...unless you've already talked about this and I missed it!
And also, it uses much less CPU if you need the same type of reverb for different channels. Instead of running say, 10 channels with reverb inserts, which is 10 instances of the plugin, you add 1 FX track with 1 instance of the plugin and you can send unlimited amount of channels to it.
Wouldn't be better to place the EQ before the delay? That way the signal goes to the effects already filtered. I think in the Abbey Road studios used to use this technique and EQ that way?
It depends on the mix. But yes, filtering before Delay or Reverb is very very good... That's usually my starting point if I want to keep my effect natural or if I use only one Reverb or Delay... but in other situations, where I want to tone shape my effect or have more control, then after is good. In this vid, I probably decided to EQ after to get more control over the tone of the effect since I was using a Delay and Reverb in serial. Whatever sounds good I guess :-)
There you go, her name is Peggy Polito from France. You can find her on iTunes as well. czcams.com/video/M5y717O5YLE/video.html czcams.com/video/ts4ewZzLyzs/video.html
Yes you can use your "Go To" Cubase Reverb ... My choice of Reverb and Delay brands are irrelevant in this video :-) Don't focus on the Plugin brands I work with, focus on the technique itself :-)

Hey Tom, the EMT-140 is so far one of my favorite reverb plugins. Works well on up-tempo songs as well when a short decay
Try the EQ first...

Hey Tom, if it was blurry, your CZcams resolution was probably set too low, cause this video goes up to 1440p (higher than HD).
