Italy didn’t switch sides though, the Triple Alliance was a defensive pact and WW1 was when the Central Powers went on the offensive.
@@hyperion3145 Italy declared war on them despite claiming to stand with them before the war broke out, even regarding it being a defensive pact the reason everyone memes Italy on this is because they didn't even stay neutral, they were allied to them (even if it was a defensive pact which lets be honest even the Italians knew they'd betray them) and then stole land from them. It doesn't matter how rational the explanation is or what matters stand as fact, at the end of the day they betrayed them.

If anyone was betrayed; it was Italy since Austria had already made it clear they weren’t going to make any compensations in the Balkans (the main reason Italy joined the Triple Alliance) and then cannonballed itself into an offensive war.
There’s a difference between “lets beat this guy up” and “if he hits you, I will back you up”. Italy should not have been expected to join a war that unfolded out of some ridiculous set of circumstances just to help Austria (the one who refused to speak with them) ATTACK a tiny nation in the Balkans when the agreement was that they would defend each other. It’s made even better when Germany decides to attack France, Belgium and drag Britain in. The king of Italy must’ve been facepalming the whole way.
Had Russia declared war on Austria and Italy refused and also declared war on Austria, that is a betrayal. This meme is stale like the “French surrender meme” and comes from a big misunderstanding or deliberately out of context facts.
@@hyperion3145 You realize that France got dragged in via Russia? Germany didnt want them to join, neither did they attack them.
France only got involved because off the Russians and the desire for revenge aganst Germany. The brits really just went in because of the Schlieffenplan. And even then: Not the Germans called the French frogs...add to that many brits wondering why they fighting *with* France now all off a sudden, as opposed to against them. Because that was the general British-stigma the British soldiers had
@@hyperion3145 Nobody cares about the historical nuance, (tho I would argue that the Triple Alliance was totally justified with France joining, the only real problem was Germany declaring on Belgium which happened after France declared intention to join with Russia) honestly the only people that saw it that way was the Italian diplomats, even many of the foreign powers were preparing in case Italy would decide to join. Doesn't even matter regardless because Italy's military might was generally questionable leading into and during the Interwar period because of lack of military logistics and 3rd gen warfare industrialization, they likely would've been more vulnerable then the Ottomans. (and regardless of how good their navy could've been, they'd still be unable to match the UK even more then WWII)
And its as funny as a meme as pasta guns and "talking Italian" with your hands, its just more fun to rag on nations that weren't that good in the past then to care about how they still suck now. Plus what other game are we more justified in these jokes then Victoria 2.
