One cool thing to note about the main melody in this song. For any sort of synthesizer including the Genesis sound chip, there's a certain point on the keyboard where the pitch of a note goes high enough that it starts producing this really rough background noise, which you can clearly hear in this video. In any other case this would be a bad thing that a composer would want to avoid, but here, it only works in the song's favor.
also, the palm mutes were made by placing note OFF commands 1/32 after each note

Thunder force 4 has the best soundtracks on megadrive. Lot of people are shocked that its from 16bit chip sound. Stage 10 music was also awesome 4:50 🔥🔥🔥

Great stuff here! They used some really interesting waveforms to make this, and using the other channels to make an echo-ish sound is genius
Fake echo was used on NES and SNES. It's amazing how convincing it is having a second channel playing the same thing just quieter and fractionally delayed. But I suppose that is what a real echo is too!
I didn’t even know the bass was even there in the original track until you deconstructed it.
The Yamaha chips on the Genesis are under appreciated. The Genesis as a whole.
It certainly had a fantastic and unique sound. Nearly all of my favourite soundtracks from that era are on the Megadrive :)

It's funny that for majority of retro games in the past, it was quite acceptable to have just a bass line, beat and a little melody. Thunder force 4 was one of those few games that really was master crafted musically
