Nonna's Natale - An Italian Christmas with Nonna Rosa

  • When she was twelve years old, Rosa's mother died leaving her to look after her siblings. She got married at 22 and a year later left her home in Italy and came to Peterborough in England with her husband who worked on the railway. This is her story and she talks about the food of an Italian Christmas, and why it means so much to her. Peterborough has a vibrant Italian community and we wanted to learn about Rosa's story as the first of our Memory Ark series.

It makes me so proud reading all of these incredibly kind comments about my nonna! She is and always has been a beacon of our family ❤ There are so many more stories she could share, it could easily be an entire series!

A beautiful, well-spoken lady whose hard life hasn't affected her love for her family, her love of her Italian culture, her strength and her ability to pass on her knowledge of important life skills to others. So touching and memorable. Every person should have a loving Nonna Rosa in their lives. A great interview.

yes. The OLD southern Italians are a strong breed of people........because of the poverty and hard work......it made them a proud and sturdy people....and a group of people that did all they could,,,, so the next generation..... would be better than them.....

My grandfather was the major of Sant'Arpino and my grandmather was born in NYC but her family was also from Sant'Arpino. Thank you so much❤️

I love Nonna Rosa! When I was 8 there was an Italian lady in our neighborhood who didn't speak any English. She loved children. I remember many a time where I would wrap my arms around her ample waist and hug her. We children all loved her. Nonna Rosa is that type of lady. I hope there's more videos about her. I don't speak Italian so I put the translator on which makes it easy to know what's being asked and what her answers are. Is she still alive? This video was 3 years ago.
