Thanks Doctor. I have been focusing on flavonoids for a couple years now. I have been eating spinach and kale for much longer because of their nutrient density and became part of my keto limited menu! Furthermore with Covid I started reading info from functional medicine doctors as well as your information and your colleagues. I then started appreciating the flavonoid aspect. My intentional intake of red onions, celery seeds, ginger, turmeric, cruciferous vegetables, Mexican oregano have become a daily routine. I also eat kale daily along with olive oil. I love olive oil and avocado oil. Thanks Doctor, this video as well all the videos you have created esp during Covid have really made my understanding and approach to nutrition more purposeful.

I use spinach and kale often. To make it easy, I buy the fresh spinach and kale then freeze it uncooked in ziplock bags. I grab a handful or 2 of one or the other or both and add them to soups and sauces. This way I do not have to worry about it spoiling before I use it and I do not have to chop any thing. Once frozen you can just crumble it into your food. 😊

Excellent summary of results, though I would further question which people in a poor US inner city are eating foods such as kale, beans, spinach, broccoli and also drinking TEA (of all beverages available in the USA) compared to those that are not eating those same foods?
Probably the ones that are eating healthier diets are folks that exercise regularly, think about health issues, are somewhat educated on "good" and "bad" foods and watch informative videos like this one, as well as being in a positive financial position to purchase more expensive healthier foods.
So I wonder how much is truly due to flavonols alone and how much is due to a general healthier lifestyle indicative of those individuals that also eat flavonols?
Of course, either way, one can directly benefit from eating more flavonols, especially as it may lend towards leading a generally healthier lifestyle.
Hopefully this message effectively can be shared with poorer demographics so that they can begin to demand better food at reasonable prices.
Good for us that we still have educated, informative and beneficial internet content to listen to from the likes of you, Dr Been and others!

Matcha is probably the most beneficial because literally consuming huge amounts of tea (compared to brewing). Nb. Death rate from dementia in US is 32.5, Japan 5.5 per 100,000 people (Japanese drink a lot of matcha). But China also drinks a lot of green tea and is worse than US at 34.6.

Problem with these kind of studies is that cause and effect might be reversed. It might be that people with an already higher cognitive ability choose a diet that is more healthy. To put it in other words, it is suggested that Nurture (consuming flavonols) is the cause of better cognitive abilities while is just moght be Nature that makes you choose a more flavonol rich diet. On top of that it says in the study: " In continuous models adjusted for age, sex, education, APOE-ɛ4, late life cognitive activity, physical activity, and smoking, total flavonol intake was associated with slower decline in global cognition..[....]." This adjustment seems to me very difficult to make consistent and usefull. How would you weigh physical activity against tea consumption?
