- Artisan News caught up with Marc Martel at the finals of the Queen Extravaganza contest, and he talked about why he decided to take the plunge and try out to sing Freddie Mercury in the made-for-the-road band.
No one can replace freddie, but marc can replace adam
so you want replace Adam with a lookalike/soundalike of Freddie and say nevertheless you don´t want to replace Freddie?

@@annetteturner9535 the fact of the matter is that Marc Martel isn’t trying to “ be “ Freddie. Marc not only naturally looks like Freddie but he naturally sounds like him as well. Marc was been with his own band and he says it outright in this video that people have told him for nearly 10 years that he sounds like Freddie. Marc isn’t trying to be Freddie, he’s just being Marc. Also, Adam being the singer wasn’t a group decision. Ever since Marc was discovered, Roger was advocating desperately to get him to be the singer. But it was Brian who spoke against it. If anything, it doesn’t seem fair. Rogers say in the matter kinda just got pushed aside. I don’t want my comment to sound like an attack on you. Nor do I want it to sound like hate, I’m just stating my stance on the situation. Have a nice day and god bless❤️

Looking at Rogers haunted facial expression at 1:46 when he listens to Marc I feel for all of them, I absolutely understand why it would be too hard to have Marc in the band. I would never be able to hear a deceased loved ones voice on a regular basis.
Yeah, you nailed it. People always say it was a stupid decision to pick Lambert to sing over Martel, but this is the reason. Clearly, Marc is better suited to sing these songs and fans would eat it up, because it would be the next best thing to Freddy. But, closing your eyes and hearing your dead friend's voice every night would surreal and painful. Lambert is capable, but also far enough from Freddy that they aren't hearing their resurrected friend, and reliving that pain everytime a specific song is played.
This is not about replace Freddie legacy,this is about create a new legacy

I've been saying ever since I saw his "Somebody to Love" audition video back in 2011, if he ever tours with Brian and Roger, I will be there...no matter the cost. Queen was the first concert I ever attended (September 11, 1982), and it was a big deal because they rarely came to the States, especially Los Angeles. Since Freddie passed, they've been here at least three times...haven't seen them, can't see them. It's bad enough Deacon left, too...I can't watch Brian and Roger play live with a completely different voice in front, if that makes any sense. That being said, it's probably the only way Brian and Roger can perform the music. Even though he would be a godsend for their fans, Martel's probably too close for their comfort...I get it.

Closest to Freddie I have heard, vocal coaches have said he nailed it..so there you have it. Brian and Roger know. No question he can pull off our beloved Mercury's sound. Whether it be fan or pro he has it and now give him a movement coach like Rami had. Give him time to relax in those movements. Rami got so much better at it as time went. He had the moves but wasnt relaxed in it yet when they shot the Live Aid portion of the film (well, they did it first so...). I love Rami and he was great too! Fans will love it if Marc is let in! I saw Queen in concert this summer. It was an amazing show...so well done, Brian and Roger had a spell on me even after all these years...they still have it! Adam did a great job! These are people with exceptional talent and deep respect, love and admiration for Freddie and Queen...dear souls. I have to say there is something to be said for the singer who also has the piano skills...a musician like Marc. I'm not sure if he plays the guitar but I am certain he can learn it and would!

Marc is the closest to Freddie that I’ve ever heard. I don’t understand why he isn’t singing for Queen instead of Lambert.
It came out that the band wanted the biopic Freddie movie coming out to have him die in the MIDDLE of the movie so it could focus on them dealing with his loss and moving on. Seems very cynical to me. Maybe they don’t want to be outshined by a lead singer again? Because what they wanted to do with the movie seems very self serving.

Maybe they don't WANT "another Freddie." Maybe what they want is a different voice. I'm not saying this as a fan of Martel or Lambert, but people seem to forget that no one complaining about this actually knew Freddie....yet the members of Queen did. And they chose to go in another direction with Lambert. Maybe it was to leave Freddie's memory untouched. Maybe they get along with Lambert. Whatever it is, it's THEIR choice.

Brian&Roger chose who sings with them and you and no matter how many petitions will have any influence about it. Brian&Roger said several times that they will only tour with Adam, that they are like a family . So there will not be any other tour with Brian&Roger with somebody else.

They don't sound like the Queen I grew up on but Queen Extravaganza however does and it influences me to buy tickets and I look forward to seeing THEM in concert this Friday :-) Besides, Freddie's own family told Marc that he carries on the spirit of their son. No one can ever replace Freddie and there is no need to. Queen has been blessed with not only freddie but having a bunch of singer thru out the years singing/performing with them. Each and every artist sings the songs not as freddie but themselves and there version of it which I find unique really. George micheal- somebody to love, elton john- the show must go on, Paul rodgers etc.

I would not be shocked if they are related. I understand Marc's mother is British. I would start searching her family lineage because somewhere Freddy and Marc is connected by a great great grand mother or some great aunt. Though Freddie is Persian and his parents. Zanzibar where Freddy was born was controlled by the British Empire so somewhere there is a link from whom are they linked too.

Marc sounds so much like freddie but I think that IS the problem. Queen doesn't want another Freddie, they don't want to replace him or have a replica. I understand why they didn't pick marc.

So I’m not the only one who would like Marc to perform, at least once, with Queen. I have nothing against Adam Lambert, I simply think Marc would be terrific and a better impersonator, because of his amazing voice, obviously. I know he doesn’t want to be in any Queen cover band because he prefers to be himself, but I don’t think he would mind performing with Queen.
Marc has said that if B+R would ask him, he would say yes. But Marc is not an impersonator.
