The making of ceramic sculpture “BirdGirl” for Margriet. From model to sculpture.
In the making process there is always a moment of frustration. The sculpture is not right, I am dissatisfied with it, I have created a problem. Can I still get this right and especially how? Sometimes it is radical intervention, cutting away and starting over and sometimes adding clay to the hair and wings is the solution, and sometimes both are necessary. Keep trusting the process and especially enjoy it. Enjoy continuing to work on an image until it delights you.
The small statues in this artwork were made with her family during her 60th birthday. They made clay birds and flowers and good wishes for her. The statue will be placed in her garden, where the birds can pick a seed from her hands.
