I'm happy for you that your family is so accepting. Many parents do take awhile to reach full acceptance for a variety of reasons. One of them being the loss of their expectations for your future. It can really help if they know you have positive role models like Ricky Martin, Neil Patrick Harris, and the many others who have succeeded in life. Even if you don't like their music or career consider the way they conducted their private life. Now that we can point to other gay people who have had a measure of success in life I think that makes it easier. Many of the parents to object and refuse to accept do so for religious reasons. Those seem to be the hardest to live with. Were there any indicators before you came out that your parents would be accepting? What church if any do they go to? One of the things I'd like to do is figure out a way for kids to assess when it is safe for them to come out. If you've watched many coming out videos you'll see that it does not go well in some families. Some kids are even thrown out of the family and face life threatening situations living on the streets. I want to find a way to avoid these destructive family reactions and help kids who are cast out. Thank your parents for accepting you for who you are because that allows you to be honest with them. I delayed coming out to my parents because they are religious conservatives. In fact my dad is a preacher. So I waited until I was out of their house and living independently. I hope you have enough of all the things you need for a happy life.
