I just opened a nail salon which had been my life long dream literally. My granny owned a salon that closed when I was 5. I went straight from the hospital to the salon. When the salon closed, my granny started telling me that her brands legacy would become mine one day. Long story short, she put a lot of pressure on me and I never felt good enough for her. EVER. I wasn’t close enough to God, I didn’t do things her way, etc. By the time I was in cosmetology school, I hadn’t even applied any effort for our nail studies.
Fast forward to 10 years later aka the other day, I was petrified to tell my granny that I was opening a salon. When I finally told her, she seemed disappointed but stated that she supported me.
All of my 33 years, I’ve been held to impossible standards by my grandmother. I’ve been a punching bag for whatever unresolved issues she has. The shit really hurts but I also know that I’m that btch so I’m really perplexed.
