    She didn't really say what she does as an editor though! She was half getting into it and then she started telling about the copy editor.
    Other than that, I did really like the video and am looking forward to the next ones!

    Fancy new intro. Love it! Thank you so much for this Tea Time. I'm an English major right now and I'm so worried that I'm not picking the right classes to get a career at a publishing house (like Harper Collins ;-)), but this really took the stress off. I don't know if it would be possible but could we have a tag-a-long video? Where we just follow you at work, seeing what goes on? Haha

    I just want to tell you how much I appreciate this simple video. I've been at a career lull, not necessarily sure of my next big career move, or even where I envision myself in the future, but this video absolutely sparked an interest in Copy Editing! Nit-picking small details and consistencies in books and movies is what I live for!

    I have wanted to be an editor since my freshman year of college (im now nearly 2 years graduated), and let me tell you, the fact that I am a voracious reader and love YA and know it's market did not get me a job. I barely got any interviews (and I have been told by an editor at HC that my resume is impressive, so that's not the issue). I don't really know why, and it's frustrating. I'm at a law firm right now bc I needed a job bc $$. I still want more than anything to get that coveted editorial assistant job and won't give up! I freelance edit and copy edit in my free time and love editing and stories with all my heart, so one day it will happen!!! It's been my dream for years.

    I have questions for the designer !
    I'm currently a graphic design major with a focus in Print Design, and I always said designing book covers would be my dream job because it fuses two things I love most: books and design :)
    With that said I have a few questions,
    1) How did you get your job at HarperCollins?
    2) When your designing for a book do you work with a team of other people, or is it a solo project ?
    3) Can you tell us the whole process of designing a cover from beginning to end result ?
    Thank You!

  • @Tamaraniac
    @Tamaraniac Před 9 lety

    First of all, I love the cover for Red Queen. The blood effects on the crown are great and I especially like the font choice and the spine! But, here's my question: When a designer works on a cover design do they usually do everything on their own, from creating the concept to making the actual piece to prepping it all for printing and such, or are all these jobs put on different people?

  • @brittimogen1051
    @brittimogen1051 Před 9 lety

    For the cover artist:
    1. How do you determine what elements to infuse from the novel onto the cover?
    2. How do you know if there's too much on a cover or too little?
    3. How do you know what's right for the cover, whether to do a full cover design or go for something more minimal (Like, A Thousand Pieces of You vs Red Queen).
    4. How do you get that crisp, CGI-esque effect that most covers have lately?
    5. Do you have a favorite cover? If yes, why? Is it one that you personally designed?
    6. How much does the current competition determine how you go about designing a cover? Would you say you create more with the novel in mind or marketability?
    7. How much say does an author have during cover conception?
    Thanks!

    Before I get into my #AskTeaTime questions I just wanna say daaaaayyyyuuummm that intro was sooooo good!
    Question Time!
    1) How do they decide if the cover is gonna be? Is it gonna be illustrated or a cool photo? What would be the color scheme? What font will be used? What would the texture be?
    2) What software is used in making covers?
    3) Do you read the book to get ideas or does the author/editor just tells you about the plot?
    4) How long does it usually take to design the cover?
    5) Which cover that you made are you most proud about? Why?
    6) What do you suggest to take in college to get into cover designing?
    Thanks!

    I want to be an editor! I would like to know:
    how I can be an editor?
    I don't want to be a freelance editor, what are requirements to become an editor?
    Do I have to be an editorial assistant before being an Editor?
    thanks 💜
