What a great town! I enjoyed three days in Ciego de Avila towards the end of Sept. 2012. Stayed at the high rise Hotel Ciego de Avila (23 CUC's/noc) at Parque de la Ciudad/Lago Turbino, about a twenty minute walk from the "Boulevar" you show here. Bought some tchotchkes in the same flea market, behind the Edificio Doce Plantas. There's a great Casa de Cultura along the "Boulevar" where I watched many old folks (like myself) dancing the danzon. Since it was sweltering during the days (87 to 98 deg. F.) I hung out on a shaded bench in Parque Marti, or the Parque de la Ciudad, or along the "Boulevar." On the top floor of the Edificio Doce Plantas is a great restaurant, "Solaris," (dress code), but my favorite was a block away, "Fonda La Estrella," where, for little more than what an (un) Happy Meal costs here you can get a salad, "ropa vieja," frijoles y arroz or malanga, and either a Bucanero o Cristal, and hear some live music, too. Took in an Italian film at the Cine Carmen, visited the Museo Provincial Simon Reyes (don't miss the large diorama) and the Museo de Artes Decorativas, a big mercado agropecuareo (under the overpass). Hope to return again for more exploration in a few years.

the main hotel near the park was 15 cuc 3 years ago great town spent 5 days there lots to see and do the main hotel on the strip was so nice but tourist could not stay there only for cubans ? i was in cayo coco for 2 weeks also great beach i have a Q any public beach area around ciego de avila
Often, with a suitable gratuity to the manager, a tourist can stay at a "Cubans only" hotel, but it depends on the hotel. A friend used to stay evert winter for several months at one such hotel in Camaguey. Still, with casa particulates so inexpensive (if you stay for a week or longer, especially in the provincial towns, you can rent a room for only $15/noc.), it is not necessary for budget-minded tourists to stay at a Cubans only hotel; also, conditions at two- and three-star hotels for tourists are often not up to par, so often there is no need to do stay at a Cubans only hotel. Didn't get to Ciego de Avila my last trip (last year this time); was acting as a guide and translator for a friend, his first time in Cuba. Instead, besides Habana at the beginning and end of our trip, we visited, and stayed at, Matanzas City, Santa Clara, Sancti Spritus, La Boca (and Trinidad), Cienfuegos, then back to Habana for a week of the Mozart Festival, before "decompressing for five days at Varadero.
My hometown that I left 48 years ago I must say that Main Street they have done work to but I left when I was 10 even have AMERICAN grandkids now and of course I’m free

Yo no puedo decir nada bonito pues solo me trae malos y muy desagradables momentos allí nací y viví 33 años aquí en Miami llevo 27 años gracias a Dios jamás he regresado allí y no creo que lo haga , ese es mi pasado y al pasado no se regresa .

Ciego de Ávila is a very good city in Cuba. I think Ciego de Ávila is better than Sancti Spíritus or Pinar del Río.
