    We need each other. I think that message holds true now more than ever. We need to stand by each other especially when people are grieving and terrified for their lives and for each other. Help make sure that the world knows that black lives matter. Let's prove that what we can do together is far greater than what we can do alone. Let's make a real change.

      StoryStreet Amen! I’m sorry that the first response to you was one of hatred and it disgusts me that there are still people like him in our country. It’s kind of ridiculous that I’ve had to explain, to so many white people that whenever they say “All Lives Matter”, their racism shows a little bit more. The matter of the fact is that Japanese people aren’t being MURDERED by White cops over and over again, so no...in the current scope of things, Japanese American lives are not a matter of discussion! There are 5 times as many white people as black people in our country...so with just the last 4 black murders by cops/former cops trying to act like he’s still a cop...I’ve told those white people that if they can point out 20 white people murdered at the hands on cops in 2020...I’ll protest “All Lives Matter” alongside them! ‘Cause the reality is that they won’t find even 4 to match the black deaths, even though white people outnumber black people in our country by almost 5 times.

      Indeed. The thing that makes me love this game is Ellie and Joel. I hope they make a game before the events of 2 as either an add-on or separate game entirely. Part 2 in itself I thought was okay, but I felt it lacked something. Something that made me love the first. That “crazy man, and a little girl”

    I feel like that window represents nature taking back what it had. The plant growing to the point its going through the window of a house that should be occupied as well as the walls that should be clean and fresh now chipping out explains what type of situation this means. Nature will always win and take over what it once owned. And it did exactly that with the virus as well as the plant. Honestly, the picture of that window and the plant going through it is really beautiful. It shows how no matter what, Time will keep going and that no matter what everything will grow. Whether that’s the people infected or Beattie itself. Humanity will grow and will try to find a way to survive whether in the harshest ways or calmest. Its awesome.

      That is always what has hypnotized me about TLOU's art direction. Both games, especially the second one, build off of preexisting landscapes and its reclamation of Earth from humans. It is mesmerizing to me looking at comparisons of TLOU shots versus actual shots they were based off of. It almost gives you a feeling of abandonment and peace simultaneously. It's so eerie but also so beautiful.

    16:53 I disagree with your assessment of Tess. Tess was the only person Joel had left and her death greatly impacted him. Obviously he had a much deeper bond with Ellie. But to say Joel and Tess were nothing more than partners is an understatement if I must say. I think Joel and Bills relationship is a lot more like what you were describing for Tess.

    • @johnjoseph6874
      @johnjoseph6874 Před 2 lety +12

      I don’t think he meant that Joel and Tess didn’t have of a relationship. It’s just that if Joel didn’t need Tess for smuggling reasons, he wouldn’t have got close to her in the first place. Sure, they did grow closer during their time together and maybe even wanted to start something together, but for the most part, what brought them together and kept them together was business. At least that’s the case for Joel, sadly maybe not for Tess.

    I'm under the impression it's clear ellie would have sacrificed herself, especially since joel has to lie because even to him it seems that's true and the general aura of everyone involved believe its true. With the alternative being that ellie just lives in a world that will continue to have rape and murder I find it's not ambiguous whether or not they should do it.

    • @ThatBisexualOverThere
      @ThatBisexualOverThere Před 3 lety +3

      imo, it’s not supposed to be ambiguous, Joel makes an entirely selfish decision and the consequences is that no cure could ever be made. Ellie dying **might** have led to a cure or maybe it was a certainty, but it doesn’t matter cuz Joel’s selfish decision made it impossible.

      @@ThatBisexualOverThere I've always thought it was strange why people are so hung ho on wanting to kill abby. It's cleartthat most people side with joel when the story didnt want you to and it feels like it led everyone to thinking it was a "betrayal" to the fans when in reality most people who thought they were fans of the first never actually were. You have people trying to justify why joel was right rather than looking at the most important problem: not even joel thinks what he was doing was good.

      Okay but you have to think about this as well. And for defense, I want to bring up I Am Legend (The Book, not the Movie), because it's obvious that the creators learned nothing from the 2nd part by doing what they did. You see, the character Robert Neville is in this search for a cure, and that's what we the readers believe is the whole plot: "the cure" will save the world. But when reading, you are suppose to start and see that ship probably has now sailed. I mean, even if there is a tiny percentage of the population still alive, and can immunize all the survivors, what about the vampires (Dark-seekers in the film)? Sure, they only come out at night, but even then, they will f*** s*** up. And perhaps it's possible that they cure the vampires, but to cure that many of them? How are they going to restrain all of them so they don't go ape-s***? And what happens to a vampire once they are cure? You think they going to be turned back into human and be all chill? OR ARE THEY GOING TO LOSE THEIR MINDS WHEN THEY REALIZE THAT THEY'VE SPENT YEARS RUNNING AROUND KILLING AND EATING PEOPLE FOR SEVERAL YEARS? Honestly, if you are one of them, you have to think about the consequences that will occur because you think you're gonna be all right after what you just went through. Especially since probably the humans have already killed about half of those infected.
      You see in the book, in the 3rd act, Robert meets Ruth (she's called Anna in the movie, and she has no son, FYI *SPOILERS*), who happens to be infected, except this time, like Ellie in Last OF Us, didn't turn into one of the creatures. She says their are more of just like her who are intelligent and have formed a society, even making medical advances to prevent them from getting killed from the virus. Now throughout the story, it doesn't focus on the cure, but more on how the virus has continued to change the world. Making the hope for a cure sound meaningless. But how does this affect the rest of the story?
      SPOILER ALERT
      When Robert learns from Ruth of this new way to fight the virus, he asks to join Ruth. But then suddenly, the vampires arrive and capture and imprison him. When Robert asks Ruth, who is not very fazed by this, what is going on, she tells him that she planned this and that they're not letting him go because for over the past few years he's been systematically killing, experimenting, and hunting them down. So they're not going to simply be kind to him. Ruth even mentions that it was he who killed her husband. She tells him that this "new society" has now made their judgement and order him to be executed. Robert is now left in despair and lost. So Ruth decides to show mercy on him and offers him suicide pills so his death is less suffering. Robert asks her to promise and not let this new generation be heartless, which she says, "I'll try.". And in the closing passage Robert watches as he sees the vampires now watching him with faces of hate and a want to kill him and decides that he will be "legend", just like how the vampires were to humans, as the monster that killed many of them. HE IS THEIR LEGEND.
      And that's what THE LAST OF US PART 2 failed to learn. There is no cure. Because THEY ARE THE LAST. There is no escaping what the population has become. We even get a point of view on how in the first, how killing turns Joel or any survivor into wat they are. THIS IS WHAT THE NEW WORLD IS. You have to kill to survive, whether you're human or infected.

    At this point I’ve probably watched 90% of the video essays ever made about this game. Every time I see one pop up in my recommended I sit and think “I know exactly what they’re going to say,” but I click on it anyways because every time I’m proven wrong. I know the main beats: Ellie and Joel’s relationship, the brilliant story telling and game play, the ending, but every time there’s new perspectives and meaning pulled out from each person who retells the story. There’s always something different. That’s the beauty of the last of us. It’s a story that not only compels hundreds of people to create hour long dissections of it, but it cultivates such an incredible array of thoughts, emotions and meaning within every person who experiences it. It’s a story that tugs on our humanity and forces us to look into ourselves deeper than we might ever have. It just has that kind of impact.
