Suzuka, usually frontwoman, they call their guard-dog, she’s just pathologically extroverted. Mizyu, the pigtail girl, is the oldest, and as she says, for what it’s worth, the leader. They’re all equal partners in the wonder that is AG.

Well that was a nice sampling of AG! songs.
AG formed back in 2015 and are managed by Asobisystem. Mizyu (two pigtails) had already worked with Asobisystem as a backup dancer with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Suzuka, Rin and Kanon joined her. Mizyu is three years older than the others and so is sometimes called the leader and the other three still look to her in some circumstances, but Suzuka's extrovert personality and strong voice make her the obvious front woman on stage. But they all get to sing and all have very good voices. They are all trained dancers and do their own choreography and work with various producers on the songs including H ZettM, Money Mark and Yonkey. This level of artistic freedom separates them from most idol type groups. They come out of that tradition, but they don't follow the rules of that tradition.
Tokyo Calling is about the frustrations and alienation of modern life. AG! use images from anime and 1970s monster movies and cast themselves as superheros to encourage people to break out of the confines of their lives. This is part of their concept of "seishun" or having a youthful attitude and living life fully and in the moment.
Otanablue has a double meaning. It means "adult blues", but when Suzuka says "buru" it means "to pretend to be an adult". It's about a girl who fantasizes about feeling adult emotions and love, but isn't really ready yet although she's very aware of older men looking at her. It's a tricky subject, but obviously one that is particularly relevant to the young women in a pop group that started when they were teenagers. It's AG being honest and showing their strength. AG! are never timid.
Finally "Toryanse" (You May Pass) is AG! giving thanks for their success and appreciating some aspects of Japanese culture. The song is based on a children's rhyme where a mother is allowed to enter a shrine to give thanks that her child has survived infancy. This "you many pass" theme is also used at Japanese street crossings. The video has lots of comforting images of a very traditional Japanese home and things like the checkerboard patterns, kitsune masks and offerings of food are all about giving thanks and success.
They did a short North American tour in 2023, are doing a World Tour in summer 2024 and were a big hit at Coachella 2024. They performed some new songs at Coachella and I'd encourage you to react to those: "Omakase", "Arigato" and "Forever Sisters".
