FIRST RIDE ELECTRIC SPEEDWAY BIKE! IS IT THE FUTURE ?

- So I flew out to Denmark to go and ride the @e-racingdenmark1209 new electric speedway. These guys have been working on this bike for a few years now and it shows. Such a fantastic opportunity to go ride these bikes so big thank you to all the guys at E racing. As I said this bike is for the youth and I think its the perfect foundations. Discuss if you think this is the future.
the reason I fell in love with speedway is the smell of methanol. Electric is just sacrilegious.
Probably in a minority of veteran supporters (started 1963, went to every Individual World Final since 1967), the main attraction for me is what I SEE, NOT what I HEAR or SMELL. Given my own club which has been evicted twice, and has been thwarted several times in seeking a nearby new site by planners on the grounds of NOISE, I fully support the development of e bike speedway IF it is an exciting alternative. Hopefully it would reduce the excessive running costs that riders currently incur, in terms of equipment & expensive maintenance & tuning
INDOOR Speeday racing right in the heart of town now possible! I can see it now a short track enclosed by glass walls inside of a huge restraund/bar where you enjoy nightly racing while dining drinking! Could be beyond awesome!
THIS KILLS THE WHOLE ESSENCE OF SPEEDWAY. THE SOUND OF THE ENGINES AND THE SMELL OF METHANOL IS PART OF THE SPORT. MIGHT AS WELL RIDE A BIKE AROUND THE HIGH SCHOOL TRACK..
Oh you poor Luddite
Totally agree with you. Speedway is on its arse as it is and this will just kill it all together! Boring!
Nice to see the video of you and my boy on the track.
Hope to see you again some day👍
Hope I can come over again was awesome
It’s a starting point…let’s face it love or hate electric speedway bikes…it’s the way forward for the future of the sport we love…great review 👏🏻👏🏻
It is the way Dave and id rather be the first to embrace it rather than the last!
This has to be the future. Also could run indoors at a disused warehouse...no rainoffs...this WILL be massive. Good luck Tony R!!
I don't see why E-speedway can't exist alongside conventional speedway, but it certainly won't replace a 500cc methanol bike
I think your right bit like motocross, the 2 stroke and 4 strokes
Why not?
Well that the final nail in the coffin for speedway
I think you promoted that in a factual and honest manor . Bring on the younger generation. Merry Christmas.
The future is Riderless bikes! :O
The day speedway switches to electric engines is the day I stop loving the sport
Is certainly fun to ride on but not to watch as today's speedway matches are, which is the sound and smell that make the speedway fun and exciting to watch
It's the future for Kids for training and giving kids the opportunity to train on speedway bikes. Probably closes the gap between poland and other countries where speedway Training is so complicated nowadays.
will we still be able to smoke out on the top row??
Can it be fitted with a heater to burn Castrol R?
Firstly what a great little film , fun to watch and informative . Its the future at some point! Natural progression , just look how many kids start on an electric “ revi type” balance bike / strider. Then next progression is to an electric osset or kuberg (?)
Now they can move on to a 50 cc equivalent mx bike with ktm’s new kids bike . Some kids wont know anything else other than electric.
Exactly that Paul!! Kids won’t care it doesn’t make a noise they will have grown up with it ..
Very interesting slant on things
I wanna race speedway
Like you said Pies, maybe it's some solution for learning and developing techniques but I think real speedway always will be 500cc and methanol. Noise and smell must be😉
Fact is electric is low maintenance, but how long is battery live I mean how many seasons we don't know yet. Also I think from start when release clutch then 500cc bike has more power and is getting faster when clutch released because you keep revs on top, here on electric have to start with less revs and then quickly increase them. However for fun and for kids it's ok👍
BDW your old blue kevlar what I was used in Scunthorpe now is binned after my crash😉
Best regards. See you next time in Scunny 👊
Fantastic!
Im sure this is what will dominate the sport eventually. Anyone not getting getting their kid on one of these now will probably not get to see them on a podium in the future. And for these kids the sport wont be about ghe smell and noise, but the raw power and speed!
Exactly that mate its for the kids of tomorrow
There is only one way electric bikes will ever work out cheaper to buy and run compared to current bikes and that is if they run a single make series for electric bikes with sealed motors and batteries (meaning you can not tamper with them). Otherwise there will be after market batteries offering greater performance over standard batteries, after market electronic offering better performance, better power handling, longer life for the battery and then there is the motors, the motor can be tweaked, hi rpm, low rpm, low range grunt, mid range grunt. Then with all this stuff running at the peak of its performance it all has to be serviced. At the end of the day electric bikes will be as tune-able as current bikes, yeah they may be quieter than current bikes, but the cost will be the same
Not at all , you’ll be able to check within a few buttons if they are cheating not by stripping a engine , there will always be cheats in racing. Are you someone that build electric motors that knows what you said to be true ?
Controller locked and full datalogging. And we made an app for Danish motor union to see if people are using the right power or not. But this is racing. Someone will try to cheat :)
i wonder when these bikes will be on sale
Well..i still think theres a future for these type of bikes ..maybe on smaller tracks ..
Has to be the future....brilliant f9r a dying sports
Excellent video! Wonder if Tony R is looking at these for SGP4.
He needs to be !! I want to get in touch with those guys
He got one of our bikes for testing in Sweden. But don't think Discovery channel got the balls. Tony did great on our bikes :)
This is the future of speedway. Will 500cc eventually be available? And I’m sure the sound of a speedway bike could be implemented somehow into the E speedway bike.
Could have sound effects or would the chants from the crowd take over ??
Hello @@poweredbypies1
@@adamcrane3571 hey mate
the crowd chants could be included in the soundtrack...
If the cost element means that more schoolboys/girls can have go and raise meeting entry numbers, then surely it has to be a good thing. With the news out about Swindon, it is a timely reminder that the sport is struggling. Anything that can save clubs has to be given serious consideration. A buzzword not used openly in speedway as it is in other businesses is "diversification". If oportunities are ignored then clubs will continue to struggle.
People forget in order to grow a plant you must first plant a seed 😉
@@poweredbypies1 So very true
For me it's a NO , I LOVE the smell of the fuel being burned and the sound !!!
I've been following speedway since 1969 (and had a bash at it myself for 5 years but got nowhere). Now I'm an out and out petrol (or methanol) head and I also love the noise and smell of the sport. However (and it pains me to say it) this m-i-g-h-t just be the saviour of speedway in Britain in the not-too distant future. It's getting harder and harder to oppose stadium owners in their ever-increasing numbers to sell to developers. BUT for some stadiums within (or near) housing estates where there are good chances of opposition to noise, E-speedway might just be the solution. I do sense though, that if normal 500cc racing has to be finally curtailed in this country, die hard supporters may not bother coming through the turnstiles, which would be another problem to solve. On the plus side, lower costs (and the subsequent knock-on effects) of these E-bikes may well bring more new blood into the sport. I don't think I've explained myself too well but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying. Anyway many thanks for the interesting filming and video.
Great comments mate thank you
Awsum I'd like one ,be fun
I can sell you one ;)
People don't like change however that's why the sport I love is dieing time to move forward if we want speedway to survive
Doing some good work Paul, still need subtitles at times as southern based Pirate.
😂😂😂 I may well have to start
A fascinating concept. In the long run, and I mean 10 years or so, practically I see no reason why electric cannot replace methanol 500cc. No range issues, same acceleration, power, weight. Totally like for like. Whether supporters of speedway would accept a quieter sport without the smells, rumble if the warm ups etc, I don't know. I remember the controversy when 4 valves came along, but it happened. In the meantime though electric seems brilliant for training youngsters.
what if ethanol (e85) becomes an approved fuel for new vehicles in 2035? the acceleration is definitely not the same...
electric speedway bikes is trash
There'd be no noise issue with speedway if they didn't keep building houses next to speedway stadiums.
Exactly that mate !
did you buy one?😁
Be interesting to see them in wet conditions
Like the idea and for someone wanting to skid would try anything....but cost ????
Same as a normal engine !
@@poweredbypies1 that's interesting? Are we talking GM or PJR? Reality a 150 engined bike about £2k maybe?
Practice anywhere is got to be the bonus with no "antisocial" consequences
@@deanwormall Gm mate so 4-5k
If you ask me it's the end of real racing with the smell of top fuel and fine tuning ...
Then let's hope he doesn't ask you.
There's no need to burn these bikes. The batteries will self-ignite. 🔥
Don’t forget the smell of castrol oil
No way on Gods earth Do go there ever !!!!
It will be the end of speedway. That's all.
No, I like the smell
wouldnt have to spend a fortune on mechanics and tuners, possibly level it out a little.
That would be truly even racing
You obviously have a clutch it’s a speedway bike that’s all it has
Just have the sound of original bikes played over the pa with good commentators, castrol R smelling vapes,, sorted.
Haha maybe a plan
I like how when he was saying the sound doesn't matter, you could hear someone going around in the background and it sounded... amazing.
But this electric bike seems really good. Nothing against it really. But I do miss the sound.
Stupidity.
Face in camera face in camera face in camera face in camera face in camera face in camera
Being an ex short track racer, from the 1970’s, after watching this, I just threw up in my mouth. Hey, how about mile flat track race with E bikes Brahahaha.
Nah,speedway is about the noise and smell
No
Least riders couldn't cheat like now
No doubt someone will find away but it’s just a case of plug-in and see what they are doing
May as well sit at home and watch an angle grinder on a BMX..
No smoke no noise no fun. For you or the fans.
Bollocks it is. It will never catch on. Ever.
I hope not I will not watch speedway ever again if it goes electric defies the whole point of the sport
So a little part of you wouldn’t be tempted
@@poweredbypies1 no not for electric noise smell it’s all about that
@@StraightOuttaUrbex speedway now dosnt produce a smell anyway as the catrol r has gone
the noice of the bikes is a big fking part of the sport, ur lost
I agree Nose is a huge part , however its the part that gets tracks shut down! with this it doesnt
@@poweredbypies1 yeah thats sad
I’m a kid speed rider the noise is everything about it so shush
They're pationate about getting youngsters into electric....because youngsters grow up......and WANT electric....
If people think that a sport is defined by how noisy and smelly it is, then there is something wrong with them.
Future, NO.
The lack of noise ruins the spectacle.Simple as that.
@80infiniti no, it's the whole experience.
Junk
This Yank thinks it cool.. with electric you can race at more local fair grounds.
I'm not even gonna watch this. My simple response is no.
You sound like a kid that wont eat something because they don't like it.. yet they have never tried it =P open your eyes John.
Are these commercially available yet?
yes they are www.espeedway.co.uk
no one would go to watch silent speedway, the noise and smell is half the appeal !!
