      @@TheBritishPoro There is some home. On a podcast LS claimed he hoped the C9 voice comms from during draft will be released, but of course this depends on if C9 management will allow that.
      EDIT: Of course that wouldn't go into detail about a lot of reasons, but it's better than nothing and you could see how dynamic the draft was. LS claimed he was telling the players how they would answer which pick on their opponents turn already.

      @@TheBritishPoro LS said on pod that he didn't want to pick Gnar, but Summit was more comfortable on Gnar, and "it didn't compromise the draft too much." So pretty much what you thought. (On stage, he also said "what are these picks? this game is free").

    THANK YOU ! I've read so many comments about the double-enchanters comp saying "yeah but if GG had drafted a hard dive comp, it wouldn't have worked out" without taking into account WHEN Ivern and Sona were drafted (and the dumpster fire that was GG's draft), it's a breath of fresh air having a more in-depth analysis like you did 😊

    Great video. I would love if you kept doing these. I'd probably watch every single one of them.
    I have some things I would like to add:
    Thresh ban: Banning thresh is also good because he is one of the few supports that are okay B1s. He can slot in any type of composition pretty well and is really good with the adcs that are meta right now (as you have stated, Jinx and Aphelios)
    GG bans: These bans are not really good since most of the champs they banned are good B1s (Corkir and Karma mainly). It seems like they banned those champions because they don't know how to play them and don't want the other team to pick them since they won't.
    Yuumi B1: I agree with you on the B1 take. Although, I think they picked yuumi because most teams up until now didn't know how to answer it. Of course, they got styled on by LS later on in the draft.
    Aphelios R2: I think this is a bit wrong in this case. They haven't seen anything on the other team, and yuumi is perfect in poke compositions. Aphelios could be getting himself in an awful position if GG decided to pick long range. He also isn't flex ( he can be, but I doubt Summit can play aphelios top) and overall I think picking it this early makes it harder to draft later if GG decided to suddenly start drafting well. Suprising nobody, they don't.
    GG B2 and B3: This shows just how brutal Flex picks can be. Since Gwen can be slotted basically anywhere, GG are only allowed two moves here, give C9 counterpick on two lanes ( what they did) or pick Flex picks of their own, hiding their intent. Finding those 2 flex picks is possible, but is really hard and requires your laners to be profficient at LOTS of champions for it to work out.
    Ivern pick: There are also two things to notice here. First of all is that Ivern mid is not expected at all. GG most likely have never seen this pick in their entire careers, and this makes it waaay harder to play against it, since you have no idea what are its strenghs and weaknesses. The second thing to point out is that Ivern is one of those champions where proficient play allows for him to be even in lane. The fact that Fudge understands the matchup, knows exectly how his champion should be piloted ( going W first, insta dropping daisy lvl 6 to get free mid lane prio for drake and etc) is in great part what allows this pick to be viable. It is not something you can just start playing whenever you like.
    Gnar pick: Confort? I think that has to be it. There are lots and lots of better picks here. I think they picked gnar just to put Renekton on a leash, and guarantee that he does nothing in the game.
    C9s Draft overall: The amount of flex potential in this draft speaks VOLUMES towards the skill of the players. Fudge being willing and able to play Ivern mid and Blabber playing Gwen jungle, allows for a massive draft win for C9, and makes drafting hell for GG.

    • @TheBritishPoro
      @TheBritishPoro  Před 2 lety +2

      Hard agree that flex picks demand player skill, but this is professional league of legends. I don' t think drafting in such a flexible dynamic way would work in clash or flexqueue but in professional play the expectation SHOULD, in my opinion, be that players are capable of playing meta flex picks.

    Your comment on flexible drafting is key to the ultimate success or downfall of scaling comps like what LS likes to build.
    Once Fudge/Winesome expand their champion pool and get better at playing enchanters with a few key champions that are able to be triple flexed by Blaber/Summit it'll make it so they get can out of any draft outscaling the opposing team while keeping losing matchups to a minimum.
    LS is essentially adapting "correct" way of playing Starcraft Brood War and Starcraft 2 by building on economic leads. If you are better or equal to your opponent you can easily win if you're set up for the lategame. The only thing that can throw a wrench in your plan is if an All-in catches you by surprise.
    This surprise factor can be mitigated in LoL with varying degree of success during the draft. The draft is essentially like if you played the game with the map revealed to you. The win condition and strategy the opposing team is doing is laid bare right in front of your eyes even BEFORE the game goes live. It's up to C9 to hide their weaknesses and minimize the amount of losing lanes in every single draft.
    The only thing that worries me is that Blaber has never been shown to be able to play with anything but full resources at his disposal which could limit the variety of permutations they can do. I'm sure LS would prefer a jungler like Inspired who's more versatile so that he could put all resources unto Summit and Berserker but compromises have to be made when you consider the human element of the equation.
    We can see that LS understands this and played into Blaber's strength because both games in week 1 were lowkey jungle funnel comps, especially the first game with the double enchanters.
    Overall I expect that C9 will do very well during the regular spring split. Teams will not practice against C9 "comps" as much as C9 will practice their own style before until it's needed ie. the playoffs. This will be the true test for this squad if nothing goes wrong post week 1.

    Good job m8, loved the vid!
    Although there are a few things I think are not necessarily correct.
    The first thing is the thresh and caytlin bans. You sort of touched on this, but it seemed like a very shallow understanding of this bans.
    Ls does not ban them because he thinks there aren't any answers but because answering those champs would narrow down greatly the amount of comps and pivots he could go for, as countering them makes for a very not flexible team composition. If they had to they could still answer it but gg would have to fumble their draft greatly for c9 to be on top.
    Also, the renekton pick is even worst than you said because gg most likely weren't expecting an ivern mid and so they though it was gwen top, so they basically knew they were getting themselves into a shit match up and had terrible scaling, wich is even worst than just blinding it.
    About the gnar, it was simply a comfort pick for summit and does not represent ls' drafting. The only reason why they go for it is because it is a safe lane for summit and a champ he can pilot very well and since summit is already playing weak side top, hasn't been playing with ls for long and is very nervous, ls decided he would allow summit to pick a comfort pick.
    Haven't seen the eg vid, about to go watch that now, but I would already suggest you make a video about c9's comms because I also think it is an interesting topic and also shows a lot of ls' work and what he always says about the myth of the language barrier and players talking way too much unnecessary info

    LS already explained during facecheck that he had a lot of different variations taking into account the possible picks the enemy team could so, so yeah, it wasn't a single specific comp but it was indeed predicted from the get go, there were simply a lot of contingency plans. Meaning that there wasn't a single possible comp, but several ones already pre planned.

  • @DawnofIsai
    @DawnofIsai Před 2 lety

    Yeah LS said Gnar wasn't BiS but like you said they were so far ahead that it didn't matter. And like you also mentioned it was just a good counter to renekton both inside and teamfights plus doesn't demand jungle attention so it didn't disrupt the comp.
    I think one thing you undervalue is prep. You overestimate LS' ability to come up with all of this on the fly. Yeah a lot of it he could do, but most of it just comes from prep and pre-existing knowledge. He knows counters to champions, knows what champs are strong, and how they work together. So while they don't go into games with the mindset of "we're playing a poke comp" they do go in with a mindset of "if they pick this or leave this up we'll do this"
    Kinda how he looks at wave management with his set up. It's like a chess match. A grandmaster had all these patterns in their head that they're able to pick the best one quickly because of their game knowledge and experience.

    the only thing id like to add is you could put yourself in GG's shoes and talk about how hard it is to draft against C9
    at R4 C9 has ivern triple flex, gwen triple flex, sona triple flex and aphelios triple flex (yes you can flex aphelios into solo lanes if the stars align) even on R5 C9 still could've flexed ivern into jgl and gwen into mid lane(at least on paper)

    Draft theory is not big enough in league for some reason. So far LS seams the only proponent of it. Drafting is a whole mini-game in itself.

    • @TheBritishPoro
      @TheBritishPoro  Před 2 lety

      No, not really. Jinx isn't as good at playing pure weakside as Jhin. She can easily be punished and also requires more gold than Jhin does. Yuumi wants to detatch from her ADC and go make plays with Qiyana, but with Jinx she needs to stay bot more often.

    A few things I have to point out.
    Yes b1 champions have to be either broken or "flexible" but flexible doesn't necessarily mean multi-role flex, it can also mean flexible in the context of versatility. For example champions like GP , Ezreal, Jinx,Corki, Xinzhao,Liliya are all B1-able due to their champion kit's versatility to fit into different comps, even if we assume these champions are only picked for 1 specific role. Yummi is perfectly fine B1 because you can play to engage with yuumi as well as to disengage with yuumi; you can draft so many things with Yummi b1.
    Aphelious is not a great r1/r2 blind pick champion because he will get out ranged by many other adcs that are still open such as Ezreal, Jinx, Jhin, Kog,Twitch, Trist,Ziggs,Ashe, Varus, and he will also get out ranged by any control mage , Jayce is also open. C9 decided to blind pick Aphelious most likely because Berserker is really proficient at the champion and also LS hypothesis that GG won't properly punish the blind Aphelious pick which is exactly what happened (GG overall had a dive comp which benefits aphelious).
    Viktor B3 is not the best pick but it's also a fine pick. Viktor outranges Aphelious and gwen, while the champion is perfectly fine being blind picked since there are no great counter picks into Viktor.
    R5 Gnar is perfectly fine, c9's comp is already way too heavy on AP so they need an AD tanky champion that also can win lane against renekton. Gragas would be too much AP and Poppy will get kited by Jhin Yummi Viktor.
    If GG had just b5'd jayce they would've won draft imo.

    • @TheBritishPoro
      @TheBritishPoro  Před 2 lety

      If GG had B5'd jayce they leave themselves wide open to getting smacked by Summit Irelia. She's exremely good into a Qiyana Jayce topside.

    • @kindergartenkiller3814
      @kindergartenkiller3814 Před 2 lety

      @@TheBritishPoro you dont really wanna draft Irelia when you have a gwen jungle, gwen wants to full clear until 2 items and let the laners lane by themselves. When you draft Irelia you wanna play around Irelia. Also if you draft Irelia there's no reliable CC and frontline in this comp to shut down the Yummi+Qiyana. Also if Irelia doesnt hard win lane against jayce the draft is still losing for C9 because there's no engage tools but they're also hard out ranged.

    • @TheBritishPoro
      @TheBritishPoro  Před 2 lety

      @@kindergartenkiller3814 C9 have no need to engage. We saw this in the game. They walk to the objective, start it and make GG engage on them. Irelia can hold her own in lane vs the Jayce, even if Qiyana comes top occasionally, proivded she doesn't int twice at level 1 (Hi Adam), but Qiyana wants to play selfishly this game. Once Irelia has 1-2 items she's drawing rediculous pressure in the sidelane and Jayce can't match her alone. I think engage is really overrated. If you play your lanes correctly and have prio you can just go to the objective first. There's no need to fight over nothing.

    • @kindergartenkiller3814
      @kindergartenkiller3814 Před 2 lety

      @@TheBritishPoro That is just a wrong take, you're also generalizing "engage", it is always situational; you don't need engage tools when you outrange the enemy champions and you can simply invite the enemy team to engage on you and then disengage, but if you get out-ranged and have no engage tools what can you do? When you play a counter pick such as Irelia into Jayce, you want to have a jungler that has the option to skip camps and match the 2v2 for Irelia, but if you pick Gwen you want to have her full clearing without having to skip camps. And no Irelia cannot 1v2, if Irelia falls behind early she is simply useless and will not even win 1v1 against Jayce. Qiayana clears fast but she doesn't have to fullclear and she is allowed to skip camps, where if you skip camps on Gwen you're probably falling behind to reach your 2 item spike which is terrible.

    • @kindergartenkiller3814
      @kindergartenkiller3814 Před 2 lety

      @@TheBritishPoro In this game C9 have no need to engage because GG picked Renekton+Qiana which is dive, had they picked Jayce C9 would've been out-ranged, and C9 are then forced to engage on GG. Engage or Disengage, it is always relative to champions in the game.
