This happened to me … I literally didn’t even like cats until I helped one who had babies outside my house and suddenly I now have 4 cats 😂 I love her and I’m learning everything so fast

Same exact situation for me. I was NOT a cat person,didn't like them,didn't want anything to do with them. Then we found a stray,then another,then another,and another. I have 4 now as well 😬😅 they're my babies though.

Girl, you are a life saver! My husband and I have two dogs and have that under control. My sister passed away in June and we are now the owners of her beloved cat, Yawney Chompers. I will cherish this cat because he was her pride and joy, however we know nothing of owning a cat except the basics and the house has started to smell. My husband is supportive of the whole situation but has made some comments about the smell.

HINT: one can run this video at 1.5 speed and get all the info quicker no problem. i dont know what a litter genie is , i just have a small covered garb can with bag and put wood shavings in the bottom, then the used litter chunks, then couple handfuls of wood shavings and keep sandwiching these layers until its time to bag it away; spray bottom of can with lemon disinfectant before new bag goes in. excellent to control smell. and baking soda in bottom of litter pan, layer of litter, then more baking soda, then another layer of litter. works really good.
The only thing I don’t like is the smell after the cat pooped.
100% smells like a human just blew up the bathroom (where I keep my liter pan due to limited space)
you should try a raw diet for your cat if you havent. my cat's poop does not smell

@@julianm5333 Cats are obligate carnivores (meaning they CAN eat non-protein based foods but CANNOT live without an animal protein base + vital nutrients cats need such as specific minerals and vitamins), and anyone who thinks a cat should/can be vegan, should NOT have a cat. It is abuse plain and simple, and can cause blindness as well as (and very likely if continued) longterm health difficulties and DEATH.
That aside, I'm pretty sure they meant a diet of raw cat food. You can buy it prepared or make your own, but doing the latter requires a ton of research because like I mentioned, cats have a much different nutritional need than dogs, especially considering things like a balance of fatty acids. Some cats have a high amount of allergens regarding most processed foods because of soy, wheat, vegetable or other certain protein/etc. fillers they often have and do very well on a raw diet.

definitely needed this lol i've grown up with cats but have just never had to think about the smell of the boxes because my mom was the one who bought the litter and everything, i would scoop it if it had anything in it but most of the time i just didn't notice any smell but now that i'm older and have my own place i'm hyperaware of the smell. i have two cats and my male cat takes the worst shits they're like sweaty and fat and just so nasty and my female is small but hers are pretty bad too so i'm going insane constantly spraying air freshener and lighting candles, this is so helpful thank you
Sadly some people seem to not be bothered or care about the odor their pet makes in their home which I find rude and disgusting when I go over and the odor is so significant in their home.

You don't need to use liners for you litterbox, you just need to use a stainless steel litterbox. Ammonia cannot seep into steel.

I've had cats throughout my whole life but they've all been females and my personal opinion female cats don't have much of a smell with their litter boxes, now males I feel like their litter boxes are very stinky lol. I've had my little guy for 2 years in May he will be two and whenever me and my parents we smell his litter box so this actually really helped so THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Agreed. I have a small female and her litterbox doesn't really smell. Her poops are small. When I watch my friends 2 male cats. Holy hell. They smell and shit like crazy.
If you live in texas yall got to buy the HEB 99.9% dust free litter !! It works amazing 😁 i got 2 cats and clean their litter around 2-3 a day. And clean the whole box weekly.

Will you please share a link to your litter box and liners? I have had a hard time finding a new deep litter box that liners will fit.
Instead of litter liners you can use disposable litter boxes this works well for cats that like to eat plastic bags like mine.

Hi! I’m considering not using liners anymore either. How does that change your routine? Do you completely empty the litter box into the garbage and then deep clean it once a week-ish?

Sorry, but this is part of having a cat. The best stuff to get for urine and cleaning out the box is Urine remover from Clorox. You can use it on the carpet and clean out the litter box. My friend is potty training her little boy and uses it around the toilet. Get the breeze litter system and use horse bedding, and all you have to do is scoop the poop. The pee will soak in and form sawdust. Just change the pad once a week, clean down with urine remover and refill horse pellets when low. Change pellets once a month.

Cats always break thriught the liners. I find them worthless. Litter mats do not stop the tracking and I find them a waste.
How does the liner not rip when you scoop it ?
Vinegar is also ALWAYS safe to consume.
Why don't you just double line with trash bags? Growing up my mom would use 2 trash bags to line the litter box (you basically put the box inside the bag, flatten the bag on the inside and load the liter on top of it). It's easier when you're ready to trash it since it's already got the bag around it...you just peel it back. It's hard to explain. Anyway, periodically the 2nd liner would be changed too as it got really old, but I bet its cheaper and more efficient to use trash bags as liner.
that's what i was wondering? this concept of liners is new to me so i am excited to try it but i am wondering if there's anything special about the liners or if trash bags would do the same job
My main issue with plastic bags is the cat's nails getting caught and it tearing, causing it to leak into the litter box anyway and making covering their business harder.

If you have the money pretty litter is crazy when it comes to odour. They have really good deodorizing crystals that completely hide the smell but is pretty expensive

I tried this litter and it clumps great the only thing that’s extremely off putting about it is the scent. it’s overpowering… that’s why i was looking for suggestions.
Yup been a dog person my whole life, hell I had every other animal in the books my whole life, even horses. But no cats. Then I fell in love with my elementary school bully 15 years later and BOOM I'm the mom to two lovely kitties of his 😅😅😅 he's had cats his whole life so I'm a baby to this new stuff! I have to say that your way is GREAT if money is no object, however, I've found that you can get a 50 pound bag of LAYER CRUMBLE, which is actually chicken feed, to use as litter, for about 15 dollars, and the cats can even eat it if they wanted to....So non toxic. It also clumps for easy cleaning. Those 1 gallon freezer bags are so cheap that it's not a problem. I clean my litterbox about 4 times per day and deep clean once a week. Small amount of Baking Soda as a bottom layer and there is no smell. I'm in a 22 foot camper, and if you walked in here you would not smell cat at all....and I have 3 of them
Where do you live? If you didn’t clean it that often would it smell a lot?
I ask where you live because I have noticed the some type of litter smell horrible in hotter temperatures at times.
@@darat4732 I'm actually in Michigan, but I also use wood pellets mixed into my litter so it always has a nice "wood shop" type of smell. I make sure to get the poop as soon as I smell it tho

And another reason why I like cat pride later better than arm & Hammer is because they donate a pound of litter to a shelter every time you buy one.
I don't invite people that much but my house is so ventilated I can smell cat poop easily. LOL. This is so helpful.
ETA: If you live in a tropical country or in a place where temperatures do not drop to anything lower than 25 celsius, don't go for Tofu or Pine litter. Get bentonite clay-based litter with the fastest clumping ability.
Tofu and pine smell HORRIBLE during summer even with deodorizers even if it's just one cat poop.

God I wish I only had 2 cats, live with my mom and 8 cats, litter box cleaninhg is quite a chore, definetely gonna try out liners next time I empty the boxes though( with cheaper trash bags). Itll definetely cut down on the time. My cats tend to pee on the mats when we put them out unfortunetely( they somehow never miss when the mats aernt out though)
Just to warn you litter box liners can potentially be a no bueno for some cats. Cats can go to the bathroom and end getting their claws stuck in the plastic which makes them start to hate the litter box. I just wanted to throw that out there so b careful when using them! xD

However... when you said "if you don't know what a litter genie is...," I went to look that up. 😂 No offense to you, it's to these corporations who just can't get enough of our money! What a waste of money! Just take that stuff outside. I got one of those scent absorbers from the pet store and it works great. I also don't wipe my cat's butt. I use regular litter and dump it every three days. I'm not going to scoop anything. What will they think of next to get our money?
I’m with you on the litter genie....why not just use a small bin with a scented liner in it instead?! As far as scooping the litter box goes, I think it’s necessary to get more out of the litter so you are not dumping the litter too often which is a pain too. I don’t think the odour is going to be kept at bay effectively either of you don’t scoop the litter.

it worked for me for a long time! Currently using 24/7 tidy cats litter- it works well with the litter robot that we now have

Advise -- Write down your points, and go through them quickly. Talking about this 15 min is too much.
I'm not trying to be rude but I am a cat expert using cat liners for litter boxes are a bad idea it gets stuck in the cats nails and irritates them it's best to have your litter box without one scoop it out daily and change it completely and clean it every 2 weeks. With a good hypoallergenic litter like cats pride litter in the blue container it works wonderfully for me cats noses are so sensitive that scented cat litter is bad for them.
The liners worked wonderfully for me and were easier for me to manage. I now have a little robot and so this video is not updated on what I currently do. We all do what’s best for us and our cats!

I find using nonscented clumping charcoal litter has been working best for me. I layer it by using baking soda first then litter then baking soda then litter... Clean the box once a day and it's good for a week no smell 😎
