This song was written in a dungeon in Carlisle Castle in 1746 by a captured jacobite before many of them were hanged.

I was stationed in Germany at the time, but my wee mammy rented our her garden 10 minutes from Balloch park toRunrig campers for a fiver a night including a fry up breakfast in the morning,of course she was at the gig and had a hell of a time.

Great reaction, that was nice. At the change of tempo in the song they were singing our Scottish language the "Gaelic". You can sing along with the words as it not difficult. They are saying, Ho, ho mo leannan (Oh hello my lover)
Ho mo leannan bhoidheach (Oh hello my beautiful lover).

I was at this concert it was a brilliant day capercaillie were great and hothouse flowers had the place jumping before runrig went on stage ,and it was great to see one of my fave djs at that time tom ferrie introduce runrig as he had been trying to get their music to a wider audience, rurig were always superb but the atmosphere at glasgow barrowlands is hard to beat

This song is about the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. The Battle of Culloden took place on 16 April 1746, near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. A Jacobite army under Charles Edward Stuart was decisively defeated by a British government force commanded by the Duke of Cumberland, thereby ending the Jacobite rising .

The loch lomond gig was brilliant but the barrowlands has an electric atmosphere, and songs like alba, pride of the summer, cnoc na feille,an ubhal as airde, the cutter and the clan, news from heaven, stepping down the glory road almost blew the roof of the place
