How I Learned Slide Guitar

- The first of many longer-form videos from me! I should note that despite having the word "learned" in the past tense in the title, the learning never stops and I'll always strive to improve myself as a slide guitarist and a musician as a whole. Also sorry about the voiceover audio, made a rookie mistake in editing and had to use my phone camera's audio.
Also also the Statesboro Blues clip is in Open E, the caption somehow didn’t make it into the final video

Hey just a heads up everyone, if an account who looks like me replies to your comment about winning a prize, it’s not me. I’ve reported it, don’t fall for spam!
Hey Dylan- what's the Les Paul?
I literally came here to mention that, happened to me but was an obvious scam. These f***** people, for f**** sake
@@brianjhutto it’s a custom shop R8 Aged in a limited “sweet cherry” color!
Oh man ! So im not really getting a Free Guitar !? 😁🤟
That's what I thought! Thanks, Dylan, you rock .....
Starting my slide journey at 63. Thanks for inspiring me. Duane Allman and Brothers all time best.
Funny, fellow 63er here starting slide myself. Ears and eyes blown away!
You're probably one of the best slide players I've ever heard
Dylan Adams, you and I have been down the same path to learning our craft. I met Derek Trucks when he was 19 years old, that was completely inspired by his work.
And we were all inspired by Duane Allman.
I saw Muddy Waters play slide guitar 1971, and I wanted to learn how to do it.
Thanks for the smile on my face
Berklee? Yup, that makes sense. Excellent starting point for talking to camera btw, not rushing or flubbing, and only going to get more natural.
Ry Cooder Get Rhythm is my favorite slide album. His open D slide riff after Steve vai’s bad horsie riff in crossroads is one of the baddest things I’ve ever heard
I was watching rhett shull's video on you and halfway throught I stopped It and searched "how to slide guitar for beginners".
Glad this popped out immediatly
Thank you so much, am struggling greatly with trying to learn slide. Severe hand arthritis limits me. The only way for me to play guitar is with this method. As a beginner at 76 I want to be able to play something, anything. Duane Allman has always been my guitar god! Your instructions are the best, most appreciated.
Exact same story here with Statesboro. I was playing online chess and looking at music recommendations when I heard their first album. I liked it enough to try another and put on the deluxe version of Fillmore East. Duane’s slide sound connected with me like nothing else ever had. You can feel his energy and his voice so clearly. You know what I mean. Then I looped Statesboro, TNM, DKMW, DSW, and Stormy Monday for about 6 months. That was May 2020 and I still listen to Fillmore east almost every day.
Tronzo is absolutely amazing! I had the great fortune of studying with him around 2002 in NYC
Dear Dylan, I'm so glad to find young players like you, diggin' into this artform so soulful and skillful! One little advice from an old man on steel would be - Try to keep down distortion as much as possible, because it flattens out your expression and articulation, an even deeper feel would be the result. "Your tone" needs clarity. Forgive me that word please.
So happy to hear a mention of Tronzo! He's one of my heroes and when I moved to NYC in the 90s I would catch him live every chance I got! I particularly loved his 'Slow Poke' band with Kenny Wollesen, Tonny Scherr, and Michael Blake. Anyways, he isn't mentioned enough in the slide world. Also, you sound amazing!
Yesss Slow Poke, not many peeps in the know but yes a stand out combo & a soulful side of Tronzo

Great video content. Appreciate you sharing with us your slide journey to where you are now. Looking forward to future videos. Congrats on a growing CZcams channel.
Thanks for sharing, Dylan. I'm glad to hear David Tronzo's name - what a unique and amazing player, and it makes sense hearing you that you studied with him AFTER the immersion in Allman and Trucks. It all makes sense. You've taken all of that and blended it into something that is entirely your own, really tuneful and exciting with a lot of subtlety. Beautiful stuff!
Thanks for sharing your process, on the journey myself and it's always helpful to meet another traveler who's lived it.
man you're a monster player, those horn lines totally shine through. Can't wait to hear more.
You are so insanely good, it's crazy. Good job, man!
Thanks Dylan, an awesome first post! Love your playing and your journey. Rhett was right your a real talent, and you come across very well, look forward to your future posts!
Hi, great opening video. Keep 'em comin'. It's the commitment. The investment. You're a great player. Thanks for paying it forward.
So cool that you’re sharing your journey - I for one will be following along from here on out!😊
Cool, thanks, looking forward to more from you.
One way or another, you’re going somewhere, buddy.
Man, you are already legendary type of guitarist. It's exciting to witness your talent, and your rise to stardom. All the best to you.
Super interesting video. I´ll catch the next one too. Thanks for sharing ✌🏻
So glad you're on youtube now!!! I'm subscribed and the bell is clicked!!! Great video man!!!
Dude! Keep it coming. We need more people like you talking about their journey…and teaching me more about slide!
Good first video. Cool to hear how you started and your inspirations.
Great video! Looking forward to all your new content and maybe copping some of your slide knowledge for my own playing 😁 God bless and rock on 👍🎸
All of this makes me smile so wide :-) Hooray for Dave Tronzo, my hero!!!
Very interesting story, your channel is going to kick ass. Looking forward to seeing where you take it. I love the slide focus. I’m so weak at slide but I love listening to it.
Subscribed. KILLER playing dude!
This is super inspiring to pick up slide again!
You got another sub, my friend. Love your stuff on TT and IG.
Really an interesting journey to get where you are now. Your playing is just amazing. The playing behind the slide part is so over my pay grade, it's hard to compute that. Thanks for this new type of video, hope to see more in the future.
Thanks for doing this video series, really impressed after seeing some of your videos and would love to get to understand your approach to fretting behind the slide in open tuning and anything I could start to practice to build up control of the slide.
I love hearing your backstory. There are some great musicians in this world and you are one of them! I appreciate the power of social media and how it enables us to experience a much broader spectrum of them. I was one of the people who saw Rhett's review of your playing @RhettShull. I think it is a great example of the community supporting the community. I look forward to being a part of your evolution in this space. Much Respect! 👏👏👏
So glad you are posting on CZcams. Definitely a different vibe than Instagram or other platforms. People really get into the detailed analysis with these longer videos.
Love your Playing. Thanks to Brett for sure.
Nice debut video. Your slide work is fantastic, but I find myself watching your right hand just as often.
Thank You so much Dylan.
It is very possible that by sharing your journey many new journeys will begin (at least mine is).
Your playing is soo nice. Thanks. Some lessons or insight would be soo cool.
Looking forward to this journey with your upcoming content. Thank you, and honestly don’t get wrapped up in the expensive professional video thing. This was just fine. Your guidance will be priceless for most all of us anyway it turns out Thanx.
Hey Dylan! I really enjoy your music.
Same here man ! Statesboro blues hooked me as well . Great video 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Man, I relate to your story so much! I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to hear someone talk about all the things that inspired/influenced me growing up and playing. I am nowhere near your level, but people like you help me stay on the path to where you and my other heroes are. It will be a long journey, but a beautiful one. Like Emerson said, “I’ve got miles to go before I sleep. Miles to go before I sleep.” Lookin forward to learning more about you in your future videos, brotha!
Oh, and please put your solo on “The Weight” on CZcams so we can share it more effectively. It's one of the best I've ever heard. So flowing.
Dang I thought I had already but guess I forgot to. Might have to upload the full song…
I want to hear that too :)
Hey Dylan. it’s always mesmerizing to listen and watch you play brother.
Nice job D!
Thanks Jon, hope you’re well!
Thanks for the insight. Watched some of your playing in other videos, in a word...awesome, keep up the great work, & the Rick Nielsen hat angle! 👍
Slide game is crazy, Dylan. Hope to see you post more content, like this and more, here on the tube. Peace and blessings, friend✌🏼
Great video and thanks for talking about David Tronzo.
And the Allman's are my all time favourite too - you're every bit as good as the great Duane.
very much enjoyed your vid.. Started following you on IG.. Can't wait for the next vid !!
I respect you for being upfront about the work that has gone into playing like you do, even if the universe has blessed you with a lot of natural ability, which it clearly did.
Best of luck Dylan. I’ve been a fan of yours for years, up here in Nova Scotia, Canada. Statesboro Blues hooked me too! Interesting how you’ve come full circle back to standard tuning. I look forward to more gear and technique videos. 6:31
Nice playing man, those were some smooth licks at 8:23! Watch out Derek!
I’m late… but just ringed the bell here and in instagram… this playing is incredible 😮
Dylan is now my favorite slide guitar player !!! Hopefully you'll come up to New England sometime so I can see you play !!
Yeah ! Dylan wicked that you posted here, loving your posts and this video is awesome and yeah it was Rhett that turned me on to you. Thanks it’s great stuff
Really interested in the switch from ring to pinky. Thinking of doing so myself after playing on ring for many years. cool vid!! Love your playing man
Good to know about your journey Dylan. Got to be something in the water in Jacksonville. Keep it up!!! The world of a musician is a bumpy one. But can be a most rewarding one. Never lose sight. You have to have tunnel vision.
