      Left the job 10 years ago, never looked back and never missed it. When it was good it was great. When it got bad it was terrible. Right now I can’t imagine being in police work. If they defund police it isn’t about hurting the cops. It will go way beyond that. Go buy a farm in Kentucky and wrap it in barbed wire.

    I have only seen the NYPD patrol my street once in the past few weeks, and that was on the evening of July 4th, only after a few tons of fireworks went off on my corner. The crowd yelled out "Here comes the social workers". So sad.

    Wow I would have been on the force for almost that many years. I left the academy in 95' after only 2 months. I was 34 at the time and the recruits were just to imature. These recruits are way to young with no life experence to be carrying guns.

    I retired in 2015 from Hudson County, N.J. with 28 years of service P.B.A. Local 600. Congratulations to Det.     If I was a mayor and someone said I should defund the police I would say "how much" they respond "500 million" then I say "ok I'm hereby going to increase the police budget by 500 million dollars, anybody else?".

    It's a crying shame seeing what is happening here in this city I remember a time when the people, our citizens in the street used to praise you for just TAKING the NYPD exam in hopes that you were becoming a cop.     July 12, 2020---Curious.....What is the cop vs citizen ratio today? What was it going back to the 1930's for example and then, every 10 or even 20 years? Also, are there ANY cops who actually walk a beat? That is, they have X number of blocks to patrol. Also, how many people actually KNOW their cops either by sight or name? Otherwise, they all look the same as they cruise by in the neighborhood.

    We wouldnt be here if the police would learn to hold their bad officers accountable and instead of disregarding members of the public listen to their realistic suggestions. People in NYC and across the nation are tired of bad cops existing in a profession full of people that they shouldnt have concerns with but do because of an inability to cleanse the profession of its impurities. Yes, some civis do make police interactions harder than need be but you try seeing incident after incident of police misconduct to state sanctioned murder and then be glad to see a cop who stops you for no reason
