- In this episode of the Mercedes OM617 swapped Comanche I just get my bearings around the project again, having taken such a long break from it, and then "install" a transfercase.

New subscriber. I am irate at how clean your shop is.
Please keep posting. I really enjoy your videos and you craftsmanship
I really like watching your videos. Your attitude is very likable. I totally get what you mean about uploading… We have struggled to make videos as well. Don’t sweat it, just do them when it makes you happy…
Well, I'm a month behind. Glad to see you back. Thanks for the great videos.
As a fellow comanche owner, you sir are the right kind of crazy. :D Will stay tuned forever into the future.
I feel like I have watched all the diesel swap videos on youtube. I'm considering the OM617, Kubota, TDI and the R2.8 for my CJ8. This series has been among the best that I've seen, and honestly makes me reconsider the OM617. Keep up the good work, I hope more updates are coming!
To do this over right now, I would go TDI. It just fits way better.
Hope to see more!
Thanks for the update haha, another quality video!
As someone who watches more youtube car stuff than is healthy, you make great videos. Hope you keep it up man, hopefully you finish this thing faster than the rust spreads!
I just bought an 86 2wd and a set of 2 om617 just popped up on Facebook. Might have to do a build along..... lol
Dude great job. Hope all is well, also I am seriously considering throwing an OM617 in my 98 xj.
Hey welcome back, I think you've got a really swell channel
More Comanche videos!
Good to see you! I've enjoyed your videos and glad to see you back at it. Keep it coming!
Cut your hair, ya hippie :flipoff2: good to see you back at it!
Glad to see you haven’t given up on this project. I hope you get it figured out. I’d love to see it rolling
I enjoy the vid wasn’t boring because the since of humor
If Mercedes fitted OM617 to some 4x4 models you might be able to find a factory oil pan with rear sump. Not saying they did, nor it will be cheap/available. But maybe.
Also, if you are planning to lift it anyway, just add some 1" drop kit to this transfer case and save a bit more of the floor ;)
I believe there is a factory rear sump setup from some industrial uses for the engine, the problem is finding one and how much money you would have to pay for it. The car versions of these engines are the most common in the NA market, and even then not common. Just to get another car oil pan I was looking at $800 to my door, before I found a whole engine.
I can't drop the transfer case much without causing other issues, one being the valve cover will get even closer to the hood. It may be what I wind up doing as part of the solution though, I just need to make sure it won't cascade into other issues. Either way it isn't going to work without changing the clock angle of the tcase, so that has to happen first. Then I can play with it some more.
hmm.... they do sell a clocking ring for the NP241 it appears..
Yeah, one for a NP231 is the same. So it's the easy way to fix the problem
Your to hard on yourself man,we gearheads like to watch anyone who knows how to improvise or just blunder thru it like we would.its cooler watching someone elses pain.rather than our own from a lazy boy.keep going brother youll make it or itll end in bushes.fun watching.snookie pa.
Latest update?
Good to see those soft AME hands back in action. Although, we might all be working CF stuff the way things are going. Four Middelfangers out of five, keep up the good work.
Yup, all the potential for that. We're living in interesting times.
I'm glad to see you put out another video! Like other have said, you make great video and if you so desire you should post up more!
I've watched your bumper build videos multiple times and have shown a bunch of XJ friends. Do you still have your XJ? It would be sweet to see a walk around on that and show how you did you axle swaps.
Anyways, thanks for putting something out!
Still have the XJ and have been meaning to do some more content on it, however it's been a little neglected in that regard because this thing is plugging up the shop a bit. We'll see, maybe I'll make something more on it at some point!
no clue if you have mentioned it but have you looked at the mercedesdiesel4x4 oil pan kit? its what i used but you could maybe modify it to work
I looked at it as an option and I don't think it does anything for me. I'd need to modify it so much that I'd be better off starting from scratch. Or so I think, I'll worry about the front axle and suspension first and reevaluate.
@@2drx4 alright well if you want any measurements just holler
obviously parts of floor coming out for repair anyway...
but gee your making life hard on yourself. 3" body lift and your Tcase issue probably solved. (you need a lift anyway.. advantage with body lift (though you likely know this.... which confuses me more on why your doing things the hard way. ) anyway.... body allows for less "suspension mods" in a lift.... and keeps center of gravity lower. even helps you mount engine higher... solving more oil pan issues and even rear drive line angle improvement.. (tilt your motor mounts and point whole engine/transmission down hill more for better rear driveling mating to axle
Great theory, but you can't. The Comanche is a hybrid unitized body/frame construction, some people refer to it as a unibody, others as un. The box area has a somewhat conventional frame, and you can lift the box up (or take it off); the cab, and forwards of it, is entirely welded to the frame and can not be separated, there is no body mounts. The front half is basically an XJ Cherokee. All lift has to be done via suspension, and clearance issues can be solved only by cutting metal or moving parts.
@@2drx4 uggg.... got tya..... understand
