I have been fixing the switch problems in tortoise point motors for a number of years, i have repaired 5 today. Fixing them takes about 2 minutes at the work bench. It actualy takes longer to remove the wires and unscrew them from the layout than it does to make the repair.

Nice to see you all back. That is a lot of work to do but will be well worth it taking it up to the next level, so much to think about to get it right. Still it’s all about the modelling and keeping us off the streets! Shame about the tortoise contact assemblies, a real Achilles heel. Perhaps they would have been better off having two metal tabs bent down off each of the phosphor bronze contacts, each engaging in and bonded into a hole in the plastic slide mount. Wondered where you had gone it is great to see you back. Do not the motors dcc offer have a life time return on there point motors. Nice filming Charlie, what could go wrong.
We fitted external microswitches to the approx-40 tortoise motors on Burntisland-1883 after suffering a number with poor switch contacts. Came up with a set of jig-drilled bits of aluminium angle, roughly following article in a MRJ of several years ago. Set up a production line of group members to assemble, test, etc.. the motors. We've a standard "modified" motor, so we have spare motors ready to fit to the layout should they be needed. They do end up being wider than the original tortoise, so space has to be checked for installations. Give me a call/email if needing details.
Hello McKinley Model Railway and fellow modellers. In reference to the issue with the Tortoise point motors; have you considered the DCC Concepts Cobalt digital and analogue point motors? They are a little smaller in physical size to the tortoise motors but do exactly the same with the three switches inside one unit. They also have a genuine lifetime guarantee to the original buyer with original invoice. PS. Is your layout open to the public and where exactly is it located?

Hello David, If you switch to DCC Concepts point motors and by chance you are using Digitrax SE74's these two items will not work together. Acccording to Digitrax the DCC Concepts point motors pull to much current.

The Rapido Trains rail crew uncoupler only has a small protusion under the baseboard and should leave enough room for trains on the tracks below.

Where can I purchase the RFID readers ? I’ve tried the new MegaPoints RFID reader and displays but found them unreliable.
