I remember those "Read More About It" segments that CBS used to do, those actually did inspire young me to go to the library and learn somethin'

I like how, in the first Clorox Commercial, the other detergent is clearly Tide detergent, even without the name on it.
When the picture quality was shifting during the Hidden Valley commercial, I think it made the experience much more interesting.
I love those CBS "Read More About It" PSAs. I wonder how many of those were made overall.

Meanwhile, the "#2 Pine Cleaner" is a thinly-disguised Pine Power.

6:44 - Not many people know that Edmond Dantes (the person credited as the lead writer of Beethoven) was actually John Hughes. Dantes was a pen name that he would occasionally use on certain films.

The name Edmond Dantès is taken from the name of the protagonist in The Count Of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

My favorite of Copperfield’s specials, primarily because it features his greatest illusion, flying live the dream

When David Copperfield is thanking people, he looks up to the sky and mentions Orson Welles. Have to wonder what Welles had to do with this special, considering he had been dead for seven years at the time this special aired.

Orson Welles was into performing magic tricks
He was producing a TV special entitled “Orson Welles’ Magic Show” prior to his death in 1985

Omg, 19) Hidden Valley Ranch narrator’s voice sounds like that actress who played the teacher in Back To School. The love interest of Rodney Dangerfield.

Also fun fact, at 9:50. David Kotkin and Seth Kotkin are in jokes. David Copperfield’s full name is David Seth Kotkin

I've never seen "The Babe" with John Goodman, though I've always wanted to, since part of it was filmed at the Rialto Square Theater in Joliet IL, my hometown (gotta love the films with those connections, like The Blues Brothers and The Sting).
    Also, RIP Charles Grodin. T_T

I just gotta do this one for the a’s, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that baby is gone! Gah I love the 2 announcers calling both your games, and I’m just south of you. I’m talking both A’s, and Giants.

I remember that David Copperfield TV special. I couldn't wait to take part in the magic trick for people at home....The trick was to pick a number on the screen and he would guess the one you chose. Well, I couldn't wait to laugh at how silly he would look at trying out such a ridiculous trick. I chose my number stood back and yep, he chose the one I chose 😲😳 I was spooked....I couldn't believe it, how?...everyone was saying he guessed theirs too ....CREEPY AF....I would still like to know how that was done....

      @80sCommercialVault  Před 3 lety +2

The trick he did in this special is linked in the video description. Like most tricks that involve a magician guessing a card or a number it is done through a process of elimination. It's essentially a very simple math equation.

That trick blew my mind and I'm 35 haha! I read on a comment for that linked video how the trick is done and still pretty amazing to this day.

I didn't know CBS still did the Read More About It segments into the 90s - they were rather ubiquitous in the 80s!
Sadly though the retooled, Redd Foxx-less Royal Family didn't do so well.

@9:02-David should have said"Until next time.. up,up..and AWAY!!"
(BTW that Phil Collins song heard was also used in the end credits of the 1990 film Fire Birds w/ Nicolas Cage,Tommy Lee Jones & Sean Young..just imagine Top Gun with F-14s swapped out for Apache assault choppers)
