Cho, who barely turned 17, won third prize in the competition. Cho was 15 when he claimed the top prize at the 2009 Hamamatsu International Piano Competition.The second prize winner, Gasanov Elmar, was 26. Other previous top prize winners include Sergei Babayan, Alessio Bax, Rafal Blechacz-tied. Cho is still the youngest winner in the competition's history.
