  • The Lions have been the form South African team in the Super Rugby competition over the last couple of years. It's amazing to think that in 2013, they did not play Super Rugby.
    Their story has been a strange one. They played as Transvaal in 1996, The Gauteng Lions in 1997, The Golden Cats from 1998 to 1999 and then just the Cats from 2000 - 2006. After the regional split with the Cheetahs, they again played as the Lions from 2007 onward.
    Here are 10 classic tries to get you ready for this weekend.

    Great stuff. I remember that game with the Gcobani Bobo hat-trick, we were calling him GO-GO BOBO here in Australia after that one.

    Why did Lions change "Cats" name? Were there two rugby teams to unite or something?

      Free State and Lions joined together to form the Cats
