      @Atlessa Před 2 lety +34

      Also pretty sure game theory did an episode on this, and turns out the ball is much more voluminous that you'd think, to the point that a person of Samus' stature and fitness could easily fit inside with room to move around.
      People, especially contortionists, have fit into tighter 'packages'. Think: suitcase.

    • @heehee1661
      @heehee1661 Před 2 lety +34

      That's what Prime shows but it's more believable that she fits in there. Prime lore says that morph ball passages are about 1m in height, so the morph ball is about 1m in diameter, a normal person can roll into that shape. At the same time, Zero Mission has Chozo lore that says rolling into a ball was a physical ability the Chozo developed, and since the DNA transfusion gave Samus many physical attributes of the chozo, her gaining the flexibility to roll into a ball is really believable. She rolls herself up and controls the movement of the ball through the suit.

      @@countofarcadia The reason is more that you don't call Rogue a roguelike, and you don't call Dark Souls a soulslike game. The term is there to compare other games with the original inspiration.
      But for the larger point though, the reason games like roguelike and Metroidvania sometimes get pushbacks is that it forever puts the original games on a pedestal. For example all Metroidvania games are forever compared to Metroid / Castlevania, and it could limit what we could think of as valid games in the genre and limits innovations. For example, if we just called all FPS games as "Doomlike", then it would be kind of weird because the genre had since evolved to be much richer and varied than just the original Doom. It would be weird if all new FPS games still have to compared to the original Doom. I think we see this problem with "soulslike" games sometimes because it's still a new thing and there are a lot of confusions as to what actually constitutes a soulslike game other than "it plays like Dark Souls". But then it's not like we have found good names for roguelike, Metroidvania, etc, so that's the term we still use.

    What's interesting is that you don't really need to do much backtracking at all in this game unless you want to. It's not even close to previous Metroid games.
    Of course, it's not that obvious, so I did plenty of backtracking and getting lost and hating myself just like I did with previous Metroid games.

    @BradStarnes Před 2 lety +15

    Dread was fantastic and I loved the absolute hell out of it. Even hard mode was fun. As for the morph ball...what I think is happening based on what it looks like is that some crazy Chozo space magic tech is condensing her into a literal sphere of living energy wrapped in an armored shell. There's an entry somewhere in the first Metroid Prime (I think it was the first) that talks about the space pirates reverse engineering most of her weaponry but when it came to the morph ball it just ended up with a bunch of subjects being, well, mangled. So yeah, it's probably some crazy Chozo stuff going on considering they built her suit in the first place and even without her in it turning that into a ball would still be impressive mechanically.
