Hi! Welcome back to BT Exam Review. Today we are reviewing shaping and shaping behavior. Shaping involves reinforcing successive approximations of behavior using differential reinforcement. Shaping can be done across and within behaviors. Shaping can be used for several dimensions of behavior. RBT® and BCBA® need to know these terms for the RBT® exam and the BCBA® exam.

When you ignore a client whining or crying is that extinction?

Extinction is withholding reinforcement, so it all depends no what is reinforcing the behavior. If attention isn't reinforcing whining/crying, then there is a good chance it is not extinction.
